M11 -|- 35 Summilux pre-ASPH v2

The first shot was taken from a pano (f/8) made with horizontal shots with the end result being square. This is a vertical 16:9 crop from that square, and the image dimensions are still 17"x30" at 300dpi.

As always, click for high-res:

These have so much 3-dimensional presence! The microcontrast and sharpness of many of these newer CV lenses is incredible.

Yeah, they are quite contrasty and high acutance for sure. Here, though, I think the light was a huge contributor for the look. The sun was coming in and out behind the fast moving high mist, and the light intensity varied greatly even across short distances.  The second image of the wall shows how the foreground and wall on the left is already partially darker than the centre part. There was nothing behind me and it was all just the mist and sun changing the lighting rapidly.

The Ultron 28mm ASPH II is unlike any other lens I've used so far. It has a strange liquid clarity to it. Something that I've only seen with the Summilux 50 ASPH to date, but to a lesser degree. I don't know how else to describe it. It's unlike any Zeiss and Voigtländer lenses I've owned or tried.

The above images were all photographed at f/4 and f/5.6

Oh wow, I thought they were wide open. The light really does work wonders. I've sold my CV 50 APO and 75 1.5 after getting the 35 Lux pre-ASPH because I'm obsessed with smaller lenses now. I've had the 21 3.5 before and can't decide between that or this 28.

I was a bit undisciplined and ordered the Ultron 28 ASPH II 😬😬😬😬

Glad I did, but still annoyed at the expense... I think it'll replace my Ultron 35 ASPH, but not sure where or how I'll sell it.

All I can say it's a spectacular lens, and I'm very impressed.

Very nice photo. How did you obtain the light on the sand with a dark background?

Thank you.

The sun was low in the sky about 45min to sunset. I was one one dune hill, looking down into a small valley with the slope of a bigger dune in the background. The sun was behind and to the left of the bigger dune, which was casting this shadow. The lens vignette was also not corrected, which ads to the central draw.

Well, while I intend to keep the 21mm, the 28mm is the better lens, by a long shot. Focal length differences aside.

For me, 21mm is extremely wide. But it's a good/interesting focal length for those rare situations. If its an important focal length for you, then I would probably recommend looking for something with less field curvature and better edge performance.

For the price, the Ultron 28mm is kind of blowing my mind. It's a little too wide for me, and I greatly prefer the 35mm focal length, but I'll make it work. I'm not sure how, but the Ultron 35mm will be sold at the next opportunity. But that may take quite a while. Namibia is no market for this type of product. I can't even get my Nikon kit sold here...

The 35 Lux pre-ASPH is an intriguing lens. I would love to own one too. One day :)  But I will need to sell some stuff first to make space. I don't want to end up collecting a whole lot of lenses. For now the Ultron 28mm has filled what feels like a large hole that wasn't satisfied by my various 35mm lenses. I also just love the silver chromed brass of these lenses. Not so shiny as the anodised aluminium lenses.
