I have one and wanted to sell it because it’s too high contrast for monochrom. Many would disagree but that just my personal preference. However after using for a few days I changed my mind. It’s one of the best Leica lenses ever made.

I agree. I had the 21mm 2.8 Elmarit before, and I prefer the 3.4 SEM, no contest. The build, size, quality, the image quality, etc etc, I do love everything about it.

The 21mm Summilux stopped down a bit has a similar look.

I have the 21/3.4 SEM and it is a truly great do it all 21mm lens - small, light and razor sharp.  These images are making me take a second look at the 21 Summilux, though.  I love the separation that you get between the main subject and the background at f/1.4 - it's just beautiful.

A dream team would be four Summiluxes - 21, 28, 35 and 50.  As I observed in another thread, things get to be interesting at f/1.4 and wider.

i am really glad i got a 21lux myself last year, in my opinion its a really nice streetphotography lens(my favorite), when you know how to handle it or you are just in luck and the stuff you want in focus is in focus the lens can produce stunning result

on the other hand it "failes" as a landscape lens, not even stopped down its really satisfying

 You forgot the 90mm f1.5 😀

I would stick with my 90/2 APO to save weight and spinal injury.

If price were not a concern, I think I would take the 75 Noctilux over the 90 Summilux.

If price were really not a concern, I might buy both just for the fun of it! 😅  We live just this once (or so they say).

I agree . . . maybe that's why we see quite a few 75mm Noctilux photos posted on the forum but nothing [that I could find] with the 90mm Summilux.  Plus with the high resolution cameras we now have, you can easily crop from 75mm to 90mm without any loss of resolution.

Hi,  a few with my 3rd 21 ... (M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Color-Skopar 4/21), a good, compact lens, trouble-free if coded manually as a 2,8/21 #11134 :

When you say “trouble free If coded manually” is this referring to the colour shift this lens has?

love the size but want to use on M10R along with my 35 FLE and 75 APO Cron

The 21mm Summilux is a lower contrast lens at f1.4 and I like that look in b/w. When I lived in Hong Kong I wanted to feature the cityscape in my street photography but at the same time don’t want it to be tack sharp. I started out with the 21mm Elmarit Asph but it had too much dof. While the 21mm SEM had even more, what it did better was the more abrupt transition to out of focus zones, more 3D.

M10 + CV 21mm f/3.5 Color-Skopar. I just got this lens recently, and had no idea I'd enjoy 21mm so much for making everyday pictures.

A few shots I took with my 21mm SEM at Luftgekühlt 9 in Northern California.  The first photos I shot with the lens.

Photos taken with my M-A on Ilford HP5+ (home developed/scanned).  They look a lot less sharp when displayed on the forum (for some reason).
