Unmarried Women Not Allowed to Register M8?

So, I went to register my M8 at Leica's website, and the form required that I choose an honorific.

Here's where we run into a problem. There are only two choices: "Mr." or "Mrs." I am neither a mister nor a missus. I'm a "Ms." or a "Miss" or, hell, "Village Idiot." I do not wish to lie, so I guess I'll have to forgo free IR filters for my European holiday, which is in two and a half weeks, and send in a registration via snail mail.

Bummer.

Perhaps Leica might add an additional choice or two to the list. Like "Dr.?"

Well, without assuming anything about Leica, this may be a German issue. Here the politically correct thing to do has become to refer to everyone as Herr or Frau - no more honorifics referring to one's marital status.

I guess they translated it as Mr. and Mrs.

Is Dr. or Prof. an option?

Well Maggie, I don't know if this will make you feel any better but you would be more likely to get married in 2 1/2 weeks than get your filters from Leica...

I'm not sure what the current wait time is but I doubt it's that short.

Best of luck!

HAHAHAHA!!!

I actually figured as much.

I just point out an oversight. It's no big deal.

Sadly, an academic honorific isn't an option for me.

When we were buying tickets from Air Berlin, the choices were "H" and "D," so the Lieca website caught me by surprise.

Some months ago, when I went to register my second M8, I found the website would not longer recognize residents of Washington, D.C. I am not a supporter of DC statehood, but it was frustrating. I finally registered as a resident of the city of "Washington DC" in the state of... Washington... figuring that Fed Ex would figure it out when they sent me my filters. Somehow it all worked.

As I recall, no. Reminds me of the line from Austin Powers "It's Doctor Evil. I didn't go through six years of evil medical school to be called mister, thank you very much" :D

Love that Dr. Evil line!

Maggie: Check with Tony Rose at Popflash (get the phone number at popflash.com). He's stocked B&W filters that work fine--I got several from him a few months ago. I registered my camera in June and just got my Leica filters a few days ago.

I think B&H in New York stocks them, too, but order quickly if you use them, as the upcoming Jewish High Holidays (which begin Wednesday evening Sept. 13) will close them down. Their Web site has details: bhphotovideo.com

You can always sell the B&W filters later at only a slight loss if your free filters render them redundant. Or, save them for when you buy more lenses, which always seems to happen (ahem). . .

As for the Mr./Mrs. business, don't worry about it. Cultural difference made rigid by a computer program. My free filters were addressed to me in the German fashion, "Cherry St. 1234" instead of "1234 Cherry St. To their credit, the Post Office figured it out.

Maggie just leave that field blank, if you can.

And you have to do both, register on the website for the free filters AND send in the warranty card to Leica NJ USA (That is if you are in the USA).

The only way that Leica USA KNOWS you BOUGHT a M8 is with the warranty card and the only way to register for the free filters it to do it on the Leica M8 website registration page.

FWIW, it is probably an advisable security practice for any single female to specifically choose Mr or Mrs as their honorific --- prevents any would be mail snoopers from learning whether you're likely to live alone or not...

Agree that something less specific would be a good option for them to add though. Dr or Sgt come to mind :D

I didn't see any way to add "Esquire" either.

Anyway, while I appreciate that having the option of Miss or Ms. would be preferable, I doubt that it is worth a delay in the filter shipment. After all, who cares what Leica thinks your marital status is?

Similar problem in Italy... and due, the same, to the socially correct that is a la mode nowadays: just to explain in our beautiful language :

Sig. (Signore) = Mr.

Sig.ra (Signora) = Mrs.

Sig.na (Signorina) = Ms. - UNMARRIED !

But the last is quietly disappearing ....

BTW : for many of us (...polling?...) LEICA is definitely FEMALE ... a matter of sentiment ... (for instance, I suppose Linhof is NOT, even lot of people loves it).

So... people in Solms know this well... may think that if an unmarried women DOES "REGISTER" HERSELF in conjunction with an undoubtly female item... uhm... for a married no problem... like a a little daughter...

:rolleyes:This "BTW" is horrid ... sorry, a hard day...:o

When I was first employed by an american company their HR records computer wouldn't accept anyone without a middle name/initial. Henceforth I was known as Robert R Parsons Jnr. to add insult to injury. :D
