I assume you mean automatic speed lights. You can use any strobe unit with just about any camera.

Of course, any strobe works with any camera if it can be synced with the strobe unit.
I was talking about the HSS speed-light and  HSS / HyperSync compact mono-blocks,  battery operated strobe units. Only the Nissin ( and Leica) flash system works with Leica cameras in HSS mode AFAIK.

@ynp I think we are looking at two different ways to use the fill light of the strobes.  The Leica CS lenses sync with 1/1000 second compared to 1/125 second non CS.  The most common use in studio photography - with the CS lenses - is to allow ambient light from various sources to produce an exposure value.  Then, the exposure value is translated to a higher shutter speed and lower f/stop and stronger lighting is used to fill the subject.  In that case, 1/125 of a second may produce too much depth of field.  This is very common if a shoot is done on location, outside of the studio, where ambient light must be used.

You are correct, if you don't care about ambient light and look for only studio lighting, 1/125 may be fine.  The CS lenses are more for a blending of light .

Hope I explained it better this time?

Thank you. I take your point.

You are using the ambient light in studio and combine it with the light from your strobes. If you have the shutter speed at 1/1000 you are killing the ambient light.
I have the modelling lights at 650 Watt and I sometimes don’t want the spill from them and then I just use my Hasselblad HC lens on my S , with my strobes the sync time is 1/750. My HC55-110 is the only CS I have now.

To allow an ambient light, for example a light from the window, to reach the sensor I combine the natural light with the strobe at a minimal power, and sometimes I have to use a grey net in front of the strobes. But the strobe gives the bite to the colour and crispness to the photograph and I use a strobe or a speed light very often when the main light is ambient.
But I agree, everybody shoots differently and I am not the most experienced studio photographer.

It is something I have not used yet. Thank you  !!

What continuous lights do you use ? They should be powerful to overpower the strobe for fill at 1:1000 of the second.

Great photography on your web site. Very creative use of the light.
