...Q2 reporter paint is reportedly the same kind of duratec (from Deluxe Valentine) spray paint used on M11.

It's crazy how much nicer the same paint feels on the brass M10-P Reporter than it does on the aluminum Q2 Reporter, though. The type of metal it's painted onto makes a big difference.

Strap came in today from Etsy.
Really loving it so far.  Asked for integrated Peak Design Anchors and imo it’s beautifully done.  The internal cotton strap is just a little brighter green than the body but it’s pretty close.

Paracord work looks nice and the maker was super cool to work with.

Clear #1 in the strap rotation.  :)

Thanks again for the recommendation to this vendor, OKLI straps on Etsy. I may order a custom one with the Peak Design anchors for my Sigma fp L.

That turned out really well.  I need an excuse to order more stuff from him.  Maybe a wrist strap.  :)

Sigma?  That sounds like fun.

Sigma?  That sounds like fun.  Dumb question time:  what does that bring to the party vs a GFX100S?

I see the fp L as more of a compliment to a 100S than a replacement, though it could be a replacement for landscape or non-action shooting.

Pros versus 100S for me:

  • Can fit in a discreet street-sized shoulder bag versus a backpack when choosing a kit with M lenses vs a kit with GF lenses
  • Smaller size and less than half the weight in base form (427g vs 900g)
  • Low-pass/AA-filter to completely avoid moire and aliasing
  • Better IQ with adapted M lenses due to thinner cover glass (and w/out the 9mm gap off the sensor where the GFX places its cover glass)
  • Can use Leica's M Adapter L instead of having to shim a Novoflex adapter to get perfect infinity at the hard stop with M lenses
  • Sigma's default DNG color is closer to Leica's, which is great when using adapted M lenses
  • Modular (EVF, grips, etc.)
  • ISO6 mode
  • Dual gain kicks in at ISO 1250 versus ISO 500
  • No time limit on video recording + more cinema-oriented features
  • Zero chance of overheating due to vents all the way around the body while still retaining weather-resistance
  • Access to Leica SL APO lenses (plus the L-mount Alliance means a larger selection of lenses from Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma)
  • Still has PDAF (equal footing with 100S)
  • Fun factor

The cons versus 100S for me:

  • Smaller sensor
  • Ergonomics
  • No mechanical shutter, not great for fast movement
  • No IBIS
  • 1/8000 max shutter speed (needs ND for wide open, wide aperture daylight shooting)

Thanks- I knew you’d have a better rationale than my googling would come up with.  👍🏼

Rather intriguing if you’ve got the use case.
I’m just kind of smitten with the Q2 right now so nothing else is on the radar.

I hear you. I already had several M lenses that weren't getting used otherwise.

The Q2 Reporter is no longer listed in the Leica USA online store. Leica Soho no longer lists it for sale. The marketing page for the Q2/Q2M Reporter is still up on the main Leica website, however.

The monochrome version expected in March was rumored to be limited to 250 units. I wonder if they limited the color version to 250 as well.

Still listed in the Leica UK online store, although not currently in stock.  Red Dot Cameras have it in stock and a couple of other UK dealers show it as on back order.  I think it's just a very popular variant, and competitively priced compared to other recent special limited editions.  I thought the Monochrom version was limited to 500, but you never know with Leica.

I have a question about the Kevlar fading.  I sold my Q2 several months ago and regretted it from the moment I did. I thought I could get by with the CL.  I took the CL to Africa and really missed the resolution of the Q2.  I bought the Q2 Reporter because I really love the look of it and the Q2 black paint wears and marks so easily.  I'm hoping this is not the case with the Q2R.  I have my old Q2 accessories (extra battery, grip, case, etc). I have the Oberwerth open leather case and it looks great on the Q2R.  How fast does the Kevlar fade and how pronounced is the fading? Do you think my camera will develop "tan lines"?  This is a beautiful camera, I got mine from Leica Miami right before the price hikes (and with no sales tax +++).  It was an expensive mistake but I'm glad I have the Q2R.
