I take it this is tongue in cheek, but you haven't added an emoji. Leica SL launched 2015. Panasonic S1 launched 2019. Mount developed by Leica. It's an internet trope to denigrate one product by saying it is just another brand repackaged. After all, Oskar Barnack only repackaged Eastman film.

I`d heard that it was a modified Panasonic but that`s all.... hence the question . I`ll plead guilty when I am guilty but not on this occasion
Simone_DF Posted December 5, 2021 Share #63 Posted December 5, 2021 @Michael Markey no, they are not just repackaged Panasonic. They do share many internal components like EVF, IBIS, the back screen, autofocus engine and more, but there are also plenty of differences. Here's a comparison table between the S1R and the SL2, you'd be surprised to see how different they are. Just to name a few, shutter speed, high iso, FPS are different. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/compare/Leica_SL2_vs_Panasonic_DC-S1R_vs_Panasonic_DC-S1/BHitems/1514510-REG_1455070-REG_1455066-REG
nicci78 Posted December 5, 2021 Share #64 Posted December 5, 2021 D-Lux 7 = LX100 II clone V-Lux 5 = FZ1000 II clone C-Lux = TZ200 clone. Everything within those cameras are fully Panasonic : design, packaging style, flash hot shoe, menu system, user interface, RAW files and colour rendering. But SL2 and SL2-S have absolutely nothing in common with Lumix S1, S1R not S5. SL2 cameras are typically made in Germany Leicas : design, DNG, menu system, three buttons user interface, packaging, colour science, etc…

That's exactly my point. Sony dropped the Alpha line, and Nikon dropped the 1 line, and Canon is dropping the EOS-M line (evidently). I'm not sure what part is hard to understand? As far as the CL and TL are concerned, I think they will be replaced by full-frame versions (that can still shoot with APS-C lenses, of course). Still not convinced by the whole "sky is falling" thing. I swear, the day that Leica announces the M11, the headline here will be "Leica abandons M10!"

May I ask - why do you have both Canon R5, Sony A7r4 AND Leica SL2? Everyone is camera with many mega pixels? You could choose to only have Canon/Sony/Leica for example? With all those systems, you probably also have many lenses in the same focal lengths ? ☺️📷👍🏻 yes only from Leica I have 4 50mm lenses... It is madness, I probably will drop one system at one point, it probably will be the canon.. Sometime I need long lenses and sony has a better selection to use without adapters. I do use the SL2 90% of the time.
BernardC Posted December 5, 2021 Share #67 Posted December 5, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) On the subject of AF speed, I follow a Formula 1 photographer on YT. He rarely talks tech, but one point that he makes is that the 1D X Mark III is the only Canon fast enough for sports. Even a 5D/R5 isn't even worth considering. Remember that when you complain that people have been mislead into buying SLs for pro sports. There are only two cameras playing in that league: the aforementioned Canon 1D X, and the Nikon D6. They both cost much more than the SL2-S, and you'll need at-least $20,000 in lenses. You may as well complain that your family crossover isn't prepared to cross the Darién Gap! Yes, I do remember that, and the reward for saving the M line from extinction was to close the Canadian facilities down. I still have the 90mmf2 R version manufactured in Canada, simply a superb lens. So now I can only thank the mirrorless system for allowing and giving my R lenses a new life after near extinction and once again no thanks to the Leica Management.
