Anyone else notice the TT Artisan post on Instagram?  A black ‘brassed’ version of the 28mm f5.6 is on the way.

Haters are going to hate, but it sure does look nice.

Can you post a screenshot? Not everyone is instagramer 🙂. Been holding out to get a black version. Brass is a bonus!

I would prefer, w/o doubt, the black version instead. All my lenses are black, and I recently bought the silver because it was the only version available. Still happy.
But seeing the IG picture above makes me think about two things: I hope it will not be like the low-quality material of the hood, which instead of patina, the painting is literally falling off. Second, someone in the factory works like Steven with the sandpaper to make the patina effect.
It's not just marketing. I would not buy a new but already worn lens. Just saying.

The barrel diameters are different AFAIK.

I’ve just received my second copy of the lens (so I can keep one glued to my M9M) - yet to test it but it will be an interesting QA check - my first copy is super sharp across the field, a little behind my ‘ cron ASPH v2 with a slight mid-field dip but still really good - and that’s wide open at 5.6. As a “street”/hyoerfocal lens is fab. I paid only $286 inc shipping (£222 or €265)

Re the hood my first one lost paint on its edge in my (soft) pocket on its first outing. The second one is staying in the box while I investigate a 37-39 step up with the Elmar 50 hood.

As per a previous post - I paid more for a Leica metal lens hood….

I do like the idea that TTA might release a black version but I'm not at all keen on the shagged-out look of the one shown above; IMO it looks a bit silly. Additionally if I had a lens which looked like that I'd then need to attack my black-paint camera with a Brillo-Pad to make them match in the aesthetic stakes...

:)

I think they may have been influenced by Light Lens Lab who launched a "worn" BP version of their 35 BP cron.

I know the (rare) matt BP Leica Summaron reissue sold out very quickly but didn't match any camera finish at the time AFAIK.

I would have thought that TT could use their (cough) less stringent environmental regulations (cough literally) to maybe produce a black chrome version (as it's brass-bodied). I have looked at an "OSLO" special edition monochrom 246 and think this is maybe the only black chrome version of the Summaron (and is limited to 10(!) pieces )

Awesome thanks! Wow i didnt expect TTartisans would go over and above by wearing out the brass for us...However i thought the point of the brassing was a unique way that personalised the gear after years (hard/loving) use. A fingerprint of its age/ user so to speak. But having that effect to come straight out the box is kind of weird...like as if its cheating.

Certainly itll look odd if the rest of ones gear has no trace of wear at all🤣🤣

This has been happening in the musical instrument world for a while, especially electric guitars. For example:

Also, see contemporary fashion, with pre-ripped jeans, etc.

To be fair to LLB and the '8 Element' I believe the vast majority of the 'Released to the Public' lenses were simply either Satin-Chrome or Back-Paint. I've seen snaps & reviews where clapped-out 'Pre-Worn' lenses were featured but were these things really offered in (proportionally-speaking) significant numbers? In all honesty I have no idea how the sales-figures might pan-out. Nor, really, do I care.

Off-topic I know, but - just for the halibut - a shamelessly gratuitous (and never-before-seen!) snap of my Un-Molested LLL 8 Element in her natural habitat of my M-D Typ-262;

I really don't need a pre-brassed lens. That 'aesthetic' will come to all my kit in due time...

I agree, I was holding out for the black TTA 28 5.6 lens, but this way overdone brassed look just does not work for me.  I take care of my gear, and let it age gracefully.  This will look seriously dopey unless your camera is just as beat up.  Still holding out that they will make a regular black lens, and charge a premium for the worn out version to those who like to look like they took a lot of pics...

A few extra shots w/ the mighty 28 TTA.

Pippy, I got a generic vented 37mm thread hood. It works just fine. Less intrusive (as size and VF blockage) than the original one. And my lens looks now more black and less silver
