waigx Posted November 8, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. I got my M10-R one month ago and recently got a used VisoFlex (Type 020). I enable GPS / GPS time in the settings. Everytime after a few shots (involves auto-sleep/wakeup), the M10-R would start freezing: nothing works except the OVF still shows shutter speed (the shutter speed still responsive to environment lights) The only fix is to remove/insert the battery. The main reason for the EVF is because I like to have GPS tagging for traveling. It is easier for me to organize my exported photos in iOS. In middle of last traveling I stopped using the VisoFlex because I missed a few shots due to such freezing. Also I don’t like reinsert the battery in a busy street. Does someone experience similar issue or have suggestions? Thanks. Edited November 8, 2021 by waigx
Advertisement Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 Hi waigx, Take a look here M10-R + VisoFlex (Type 020) causes freezing.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
waigx Posted November 8, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted November 8, 2021 BTW now I use geotag app on my phone to record the location for post edit merging. It is nice but I really would like the VisoFlex to be working because it is much more convenient.

Only happens when using the Visoflex 020 and Leica have failed to solve the problem despite releasing firmware updates after it was reported by numerous users. Maybe the new version rumoured to be announced with the M11 will solve the problem, if you feel like chancing about £500 on one. Of course if the new one works properly the 020 will have very little resale value with this problem.

hirohhhh Posted November 9, 2021 Share #5 Posted November 9, 2021 (edited) Good to know this. I was looking to purchase visoflex more for the geotagging purpose, then the EVF, but I think I'll wait on this. Basically what I read here is that a Visoflex “always” gives a problem of locking up the M10 models after a few shots with gps on. That is not my experience at all. However I did experience the locking ups the OP describes on my M10 with the Visoflex a year ago. On my M10M the Visoflex still worked perfectly normal. I returned the M10 to Wetzlar and after replacing the main circuit board it works flawlessly again. So from my experience I suggest the OP should contact Leica about this.
Guest Posted November 13, 2021 Share #7 Posted November 13, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) No issues here, M10-R and Visoflex 020, gps on and time via gps. I took 20 - 30 shots over 2 hours or so a couple of weeks back.
SrMi Posted November 13, 2021 Share #8 Posted November 13, 2021 (edited) Freezing with Visoflex has been reported on forum before. Some freezing was solved by formatting the SD card in th camera. I would also try using a different SD card. Also turn off WiFi. I do not remember my Leica M10 freezing when using Visoflex. I will probably try again sometime see if I can find a way to replicate the issue constantly. Because this is a bit random and happens after a few shots. (BTW it is really annoying to fiddle around just debugging for Leica, especially with a camera at this price.) Dan Gamache Posted November 20, 2021 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2021 VisoFlex 020) is working fine on my M10-R, not had any issues.
waigx Posted January 13, 2022 Author Share #11 Posted January 13, 2022 (edited) I has been traveling quite a bit in past few months, really don't want to send my camera in just for fixing the freezing so most of my time I used my M10 R without the visoflex. a very interesting thing I found: At some point I removed the visoflex off the hot shoe, everything worked fine. Then after 5 shots or so the camera frozen. I really hope this is just the visoflex or just a firmware issue. 🥲(BTW I have the latest firmware) Edited January 13, 2022 by waigx
Hans D Siebert Posted January 30, 2022 Share #12 Posted January 30, 2022 I do not even own a Visoflex and my M10-R freezes a lot lately. Today I used it for shooting about 200 photos. My set-up was in single shot mode; ISO 200, variable time and aperture settings. After about 50 shots camera froze. The screen did not turn off even when turning off the power. I waited about two minutes, no change. I took out the battery and re-inserted after about 15 sec. It worked for about 3-4 shots and then failed to save the photo as the flashing red light showing such activity kept blinking. Again, waiting for about a minute, it kept blinking and would not stop. I turned camera off, light kept blinking until I took out the battery again. The sequence, both ways, happened about several more times - I did not count them but was frustrated. I changed to hi speed mode and got freezing after one times eight and another time after two times 8 pic series. I changed my SD card and battery after I got home and took about 250 random single mode shots and got a one-time freeze. I'll have to send it in for repair. I got the M10-R in an exchange program for the M9-P, after that camera developed sensor problems. I think Leica is getting too big in their selections and their so-called “quality workmanship” suffers. I’ve shot about 350 k with my Nikon and NEVER had a single glitch. Very disappointing!!! rramesh Posted January 31, 2022 Share #14 Posted January 31, 2022 (edited) The occasional freeze did happen with my M10-P + 020. Anyway, geotagging is very easy with ON1 Raw 2022 which I have used to replace Lightroom. Geotags can be easily added to photos taken during the day's shoot by indicating the location and dragging the cursor on the may for a more precise positioning. Much better than having to keep the Visoflex mounted all the time, even when using the rangefinder. Plus I save on battery juice.
