Currently have an SL2 w 24-70 and Sigma 85 1.4. I also have an M10 Monochrom with 28/35/70 lenses.
I am seriously considering a new Q2 for a grab and go when I don’t want the weight and size of the SL2 and I want the option of  both shooting in colour and weather sealing that the M10 Mono doesn’t have.
So my question is, is this overkill in your opinion? Or would all three of these marvellous cameras complement each other nicely.
For what it’s worth I will almost definitely be buying a new M11 when it is released early next year.
I feel enormous guilt and buying another camera that isn’t strictly necessary but 28 is my favourite focal length for street and there’s no escaping the fact that the SL2 with the 24-70 attached is a little chubby. And there is no sign of a Q3 in the horizon (as far as I can tell).

Only you can determine if the Q2 is right for you.  I suggest renting one for a few weeks to see how to take to it.  My motto has always been to enjoy things in life because you never know when your last breath will come.  Like you, the 28mm focal length is my all time favorite going back 50 years.  I have rented the SL2 on two different occasions to see if I liked it enough to buy one.  I did not.  For me the Q2 is perfect in every way.   The SL2 is a great camera system but too large for me to use every day.  Maybe not for you though.  Tough call for you to make.

The Q2 covers 90% of the photography I do.
If I wanted to invest another roughly 15K I would get the SL2 with a 105mm macro lens and a 200+ tele lens.
But then I am where I was, hauling too much expensive and heavy gear around the world in planes and I don't want that anymore.

Maybe the best compact camera who can do macro and reasonable long tele for the moments I feel the need I need it.

If I had it already I would keep the SL2, maybe limiting the lenses to a tele zoom with macro function.

SL2, M10M and Q2 are three distinctly different cameras with different strengths, applications and shooting experiences.  Having all three is not overkill at all IMO.

As for the M11, who wouldn't buy one at the first opportunity??

I can see no reason for enormous guilt, provided your family will not go hungry and the heat/electricity will not be shut off at home if you buy the Q2

Not greedy at all, provided you can afford it.  I have SL2, Q2, Q2M and M10M.  That is greedy!  The cameras I enjoy using most are Q2 and Q2M.  The best results come from the M10M but I sometimes miss the precise point of focus, particularly when shooting wide open.

The camera I enjoy least is the SL2, but it’s easy to focus wide open, especially with a Noctilux.  I really should sell the SL2, but then I would have no colour camera for those lovely M lenses.

Still think I have one camera too many.  Maybe I will rationalise when the M11 comes along, but back to your original question, not greedy.  Go for it!

Can’t be greedy or overkill if you have sole disposable income and that’s what you enjoy. If there are some financial constraints then that might require a bit of forward thinking as buying and selling/replacing can drain resources.

Minimilising kit is also worth considering -  such as and If you can wait  - then the M11 with the new evf plus the q2M might be a mobile compact kit which suits you with spare cash possibly going towards lenses.

It's not a question of greedy or not, or whether you can "afford" it or not, it's that you feel "enormous guilt," and are posting this on multiple forums looking for reassurance. Can others assuage your enormous guilt? I thought that guilt emanates from conscience, and conscience shouldn't be affected by us anonymous posters.

See, there is a new customer service that Leica could offer:  With the purchase of each new Q, M or S camera comes a certificate good for 10 no cost counseling sessions via Zoom with Leica approved customer care psychiatrists located at Leica HQ in Wetzlar who are board certified in GAS anxiety & guilt resolution.

This is a service that most of us will likely need at some point.

🙂

Well, they used to give (what? 2 years? of) free Photoshop or Lightroom, so 10 counseling sessions might actually be cheaper. 🙂

For me, it is not a question of being greedy or not. Even if it were, I wouldn’t judge you, no skin off my back. And you will most likely find many people who will tell you that it’s not overkill either; I believe it is people who would pose the same question and seek confirmation about the decision they made or are about to make about buying yet another camera.

I think that you don’t need the Q2 since you have the 24-70 for the SL2 and the 28 for the M, so your favorite length is more than covered. If you need autofocus, use the SL2, if not, use the M. In any case, my personal philosophy on this issue, is keeping it simple. I went from a top of the line Sony with a host of Zeiss and G lenses to JUST the Q2, since it covers the needs of more than 90% of my photography (which incidentally you can see here and on my website - writelight.net).

You have two awesome cameras with lenses to cover just about everything. If I were you, I would invest the money in courses or traveling for photography. At the end of the day the marginal utility you would probably get out of that option would be higher than from a new camera. Especially since you are bent on getting the 11 when it comes out.

At any rate, I would hold off until the 11 came out and considered all my options at that time - which means which cameras and lenses to keep and which to let go. At the end of the day I would still have 2 cams maximum, but hey that’s just me:)
