Looks good to me! While I appreciate lenses, sometimes I think "character" is a crutch. A good photograph has a lot more influence on character than a lens does. That said, I tend to like "perfect" lenses, as I want the thing I am photographing to be well reproduced. If character is the aim, then I think digital is a red herring. It is much easier to find character in medium and large format film lenses. The same lenses tend to render poorly on digital, but still look lovely with large film behind them.

There is a new firmware available for SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art

Ver.1.3 2022.01.20 - The official change log looks like this:

  • It introduces compatibility with the “focus ring control” function of the camera, allowing either “linear” or “non-linear” focus movement to be selected when using MF.
  • SIGMA fp L , SIGMA fp, Panasonic Lumix S1, Lumix S1R, Lumix S1H, Lumix S5, Lumix BS1H, Leica SL2, SL2-S are supported.
  • SIGMA fp L will be supported by updating to firmware Ver.2.00 scheduled to be released in the near future, and SIGMA fp will be supported by updating to firmware which is scheduled to be released in April.
  • For more information on linear and non-linear focusing, please refer to our frequently asked questions.

Ver.1.3

I tried to update the Lens from  version 1.2 to 1.3 according the firmware update instructions but the camera always shows there is no update on the SD card. Not very straight forward. An update with the smartphone app doesn't work either. If you think the Leica App is a night mare try the Lumix app for the Panasonic S1R:(

Has anyone successfully update the lens SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art to version 1.3 ?

Some here but I have a 601 - I think she is not supported - look in #31 there are only the SL-2/-s mentioned. Perhaps with a new SL -Firmware (like the flu from Sigma it might be possible

The update for the 85mm DG-DN works - but there is no focus ring control implemented.

Sigma supports the Panasonic Lumix S1R. This shouldn't be the problem.

Strange - but is the S1R 100% identical to the SL - I think I read that not all function from the Sigmas work on the SL but on Panasonics. But don't ask where I read this - I think anywhere hier in the forum. The same is with the 35mmDG DN - not chance to update.
