What you want to know ?

Pictures taken by other (for me) would not say enough to buy the lens.

I know of some variances on results from this old (fragile glasses with different flavors ) formula gaining 'better' (?) new glass types since 'yellow period'.

Have you seen these threads ?

Just received a 1956 copy of the Summicron 50/2 collapsible. A good hood and adjusting contrast in PP are recommended for color works, in which case the lens can draw beautifully. Just a snap on M11 at f/2 below for sake of illustration. I chose the LTM version (SOOIC) to code the lens more easily with Kipon L39-M (50-75mm) 6bit adapter. Better use some paint or ink for the coding pits as a sharpie alone can cause false code readings and freezes of the M11. The 6-bit code i chose is 010111 ("Summicron 1:2/50 Leitz"). JFI.

Difficult to find a clean copy of this lens- very soft coatings, and most are scratched, hazy, etc etc. I paid extra for a prime example - (1955) but the focus is a little sticky. IF you can find a good one - you will find that they are sharp, have interesting bubbly bokeh in the right circumstances and using PS and LR you can get some nice results. Collapsible is nice. Never take the filter off and never try to clean the optics unless you are really confident you can do so without scratching them. I had three little smudges on my rear element and I was able to get them off using a sensor swab with a little dab of solution. Scary!

Here’s a color sample:

Maybe the Thypoch Eureka 50mm f/2 can be an alternative choice. The lens is surprisingly sharp across frame from f/2.0, corrects most optical aberrations well and creates undistracting out of focus areas.

Can't seem to see swirly bokeh out of the Summicron 50/2 v1 so far (f/2 on M11).

I can't recall Cron collapsible been as prone to it as previous Leitz's 50/2. But here is the common recipe to recall this defect:   You have to place the object in the focus (wo) at the middle of frame, taking not too much space, with background on some distance and it been with some small, somewhat evenly distributed objects.

Photo above yours is good example.

Here’s the bubbly bokeh I was speaking of:

It’s an outstanding lens..for its day.   A clear one will look like a good modern lens if it’s stopped down to 5.6.   The closeup performance is remarkable.

Get a hood as they don’t like light hitting the edge of the mount, never mind the lens itself.

Portraits at 2.8 with this lens are beautiful.

I have a collapsible M mount version, and to be honest, I was surprised when I began using it on a digital body, just how good it was. I just need to use it a little more often to gain a better appreciation of its capabilities.

+1. As far as vented hoods are concerned, the Leica choice for hoods are the regular SOOFM rectangular metal vented hood, the 12585 circular metal vented hood or the 12538 circular plastic vented hood.
• The SOOFM is effective as shade and handy for transportation since it is foldable but it is cumbersome when in use and its aesthetics aren’t to everyone’s taste, although it doesn’t go bad with the electronic Visoflex 2 in this respect.
• The 12585 circular metal vented hood is well known to be used with many 35mm and 50mm Leica M lenses. It makes less shade than the SOOFM and is not foldable but it is reversible for transportation.
• As for the 12538, it is a plastic version of the 12585 with one less hole (2) than the latter (3). Was the hood i found in the box of my new Summicron 50/2 v4 in the eighties. It makes some similar shade but is less rigid than the 12585 and can feel less easy to mount or unmount for this reason.
