Good morning everybody, I'd just like to introduce myself. I.m from the UK, and by the grace of God, Cumbria, the beautiful Lake district.

I'm a retired Army helicopter pilot, and man of leisure. I've been a Leica user for 30 years, and currently own an M6 and M8, plus a plethora of Leica and Voigtlander lenses.

I've recently been a Canon user, but have now returned, with the introduction of the M8, to my first love.

In case you are wondering, I have no issue with the M8 whatsoever. It does exactly what I want it to do, and well.

I've just discovered this forum, so I'm off to do a lot of interesting reading:D

I am an amateur here in the forum, and appreciate your saying hello. There is lots of useful information to be gathered here! I check the site almost daily for new products or techniques. Like you, I have an M6 and M8 but have exclusively Voigtlander lenses. My level of photography does not warrant Leica glass, but soon I wish to acquire some. I myself am a Neurologist in the States, but not a man of leisure. They must pay Army pilots well! Welcome to the forum.

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum. I live just a few miles south of you near Manchester. There are a few other people here also based in the North West and we've had one or two informal get togethers to get out and take some snaps.

If you want to join us on the next one feel free to come along.

Hi,

The Leica lenses were purchased over many years, so they are not a new aquisition.

What are however, are the Voigtlander lenses, which were bought exclusively for the M8. I find them to be every bit as good, for most part as the Leica equivalent (is this an heresy?). The Super wide Heliar is one of the most extraordinary lenses I have ever had the pleasure to use. It's probably the best value lens that I have ever bought - brilliant!:D

Some Cosina/Voigtländer lenses would indeed be remarkable even without regard for their prices. Some of them are so good that you will probably need an optical bench to discover their weaknesses, and this is an accessory I seldom use in the field. The build quality, though generally quite decent, is of course on a lower level than we usually get from Leica. There are no miracles.

This said, the CV 15mm and 75mm lenses are among my favourites. They are highly regarded in this neck of the Internet woods. The Super Wide Heliar carries Milich adapters front and rear, for full functioning with the M8.

Welcome Doug. I, too, use other than Leica lenses. I do have a Leica 24mm ASPH, but the rest of my lenses are ZM and CVs. The ZMs are highly regarded here also, and good value for the money. I DO have the issue of the lenses not being coded, but for my kind of seascape photography, it seems to make no difference.
