Can you be more specific on the reason why it becomes your favorite?

Shu, not as simple to give reasons, I'll try.

Very light lens, light touch and fast focus ring, the tab can be used as distance pre-setting when I need.

This lens is very "easy lens" (in 35mm along with other homonym "50/75" with same "touch/feeling").

The light weight/touch can be seen by many that means lack of good&reliable manufacturing, but in my use nothing to complain.

No woppling, no loose elements (which can be disaligned like some FLE lenses).

The best of the best is in results, classic rendering and not boringly "perfect".

So this means (for me of course) that I can use these Summarit-M lenses in various situations, when f/2.5 is enough.

I understand that what is interesting with Summarit-M lenses for me can become "not for me" for other users.

Every single of your reasons falls into my criteria list, the light weight/ easy to control/ tab for blind/quick shooting / durable / good results, etc.

So if all these been kept but raise to F2.0, which one would you pick?😁

I would hesitate from what I have ...in 2/35

- Canon LTM very small/light but not tabbed

- Summicron-M  I, maybe this would be the winner

- Summicron II why not, hard to see "F Stop" , lever aperture setting may be the "no", but

- Summicron IV, this is the challenger for decades before the Summarit-M

- Konica M-Hexanon, no tab but everything is good if a bit big

Have a look here,

Better yet Summilux 😉

as film user, I'd go for Summilux 35, the pre-FLE is my favorite, I used to have two (or three with silver for a while) but now only the black stays over the good looking/heavy titanium coated

My first camera was a Waltz Envoy with single 50 mm 2.0 fixed on.  I was in high school, then college, but I longed for interchangeable lenses.   Dream came true after college and I had many systems like Pentax,  RB67, 4x5,  then Leica in 1976.  Naturally many lenses went with it and I still have them.  But as I age,  one camera one lens is the usual choice.  Although I must admit to carrying a 35, 50, 90,  50 stays on most of the time.  35 & 90 stay in my Domke 5 XB.  3 lens kit.

35 is the 2.0 ASPH pre APO.   Unless you do dark pics, it is all you really need.  If you want a single lens,  get the APO and I am sure it is great.  My 50 2.0 APO is terrific,  but I like the 2.8 Elmar M collapsible for a small package.

Try Lens Rental.com and try something out.

Voigtlander 40mm - there are a few, but I like the 1.2. I see wider than a 50 but not as much as a 35.

If you only want one lens on your camera, the Tri-Elmar, but it is cheating. I loved the versatility of it for a long weekend in Berlin where it was my only lens. Negative was the f4, but high ISO helped in the museuems.

The 35 asph summicron is light, small and good enough, even if the rendering of the R35 Summilux is lovely.
