dust getting into their dSLRs

Sorry, we’re talking about an M3 here, not about sensors, which wouldn’t be a disaster either. Come on, did you buy an M3 to keep it in the vitrine? Luxor is one of earth’s miracles, what else do you have a Leica for?

Leica M3, rigid 50 v2

I am as careful as I can but I would not want to miss these opportunities. These cameras and lenses have been taken all over the world before ending up with me. Snap and put it back in the bag 😊

Only you can decide, but for me, these are safe to take. I blow and gently wipe the lens and camera afterwards. If it gets closer to the water, then I use something else.

I take all my Leicas to the beach - and I go there at least twice a week. Normal care (don't bury it under the sand if you can help it) but nothing else - these cameras are built to be used, not coddled. An M3 can stop a bullet.

Take your M3 and enjoy using it.  I went nearly 20 years ago and took my M6 and a few lenses.  It coped fine with the journey (as I knew it would), including three days sailing in fellucas on the Nile and three days camel trecking through the western desert. It is what they are built for.

Sorry about the quality of the pic, but it is a scan from an album print!
