Purchased third party cap for 35 Summicron lV hood. I know they are easy to lose and that Leica have discontinued the item. This cap fits perfectly and was probably 3D printed.

Not to bother the OP but the hood above is not that of the Summicron 35/2 v4 (12524) but Summicron 35/2 asph v1 or Elmarit 28/2.8 ash v1 (12526). Very similar but not exactly the same in that the 12524 hood has no retaining nubs properly speaking since hood caps did not exist yet for it. Better keep this in mind before ordering any cap for that hood as it will drop too easily most probably. Honest advice to hood caps lovers ;) keep them at home or in your bag or make sure your hood is a 12526, not 12524. FWIW.

Could be that latest copies of the 35/2 v4 had a 12526 hood though. At least my copies from 1981 and 1991 have both a 12524 hood.

It works for me especially out walking where there is dust and also when camera and lens sitting in camera bag. The cap fits well and tight. Luckily a few years ago I ordered a new hood/cap as it was the only way to replace the cap at the time. I thought the hood lugs were worn and loose. Now I have two hoods and two (non Leica) caps.

Why bother to replace a cap that is prone to get lost again?

Aren't a padded bag, a hood and a UV filter good enough for protection?

I use a 12585 clone, keep original hood and cap at home in case I sell to a collector.

Shutter sunburn protection.
