Ben2094 Posted August 14, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 14, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Everyone, I've recently been getting a strange glitch with my Leica Q2. When turning the camera off, instead of the normal Leica logo, I get a white exclamation mark in a red circle. The camera seems to be otherwise fine, but I'm assuming the exclamation mark is a bad sign and that it's warning me of...something. I asked an employee of the local Leica store about it, and they simply said it was a bug, but couldn't offer any other information about it. Any thoughts? Ben Welcome, dear visitor! Paul2660 Posted August 14, 2021 Share #3 Posted August 14, 2021 Surprised by the Leica store answer. Have you tried a camera reset? And or reload the 3.0 firmware? Seeing the exclamation point during shut off does imply the camera is seeing something it doesn’t think is correct. Also might try a different card and or reformat current card in camera. For some reason is Leica Fotos connected? I have gotten some strange behavior with my Q2 if connected to Fotos and I turn off the camera before disconnecting from Fotos Paul
luetz Posted August 15, 2021 Share #4 Posted August 15, 2021 Maybe NO connection, but the latest Q2 Firmware is 3.1....

Ben2094 Posted August 15, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted August 15, 2021 Thanks for your thoughtful responses! Paul: I actually tried all of those things before taking the camera into the shop, but am still getting the exclamation mark... Luetz: Even after updating to the 3.1 firmware, the exclamation mark remains. Best wishes, Ben
Mute-on Posted August 15, 2021 Share #7 Posted August 15, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) The response you received from the Leica store employee was inadequate and unacceptable. ‘A glitch’ is not a diagnosis. What a joke. I would return to the store, ask to see the manager, and request a meaningful explanation and course of action to resolve what is clearly a problem. If you can’t get that at the store, call/write to Leica and complain. A digital camera is now a computer with camera-like controls. It requires informed expertise to resolve technical problems. That is Leica’s responsibility. Good luck!
Ben2094 Posted August 15, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted August 15, 2021 Thanks Erfahrener! I should add that the employee I talked to wasn't a technician per se. I'll be returning next week (since the technical counter is closed during Obon, a holiday happening now here in Tokyo), and hopefully will get a more detailed diagnosis at that point. I'll update the forum here when and if I do, since other people might be interested in knowing about this. Ben

I’ve had a BP M4 and two 35/2.8 Summarons overhauled at Kanto Camera. They’re now like new. Fantastic service. I’m sure you will get a satisfactory response from the technical counter. Ben2094 Posted August 17, 2021 Author Share #15 Posted August 17, 2021 Update: I took my Q2 into the Leica shop today (in Ginza, Tokyo). At first the service guy just said, 'I have no idea why it's doing that,' but then he took another look at it, and after several minutes of tinkering, he emerged from the 'equipment room' with a fixed camera. Now my camera shows the Leica logo when being turned off, just as it should. He explained that he reformatted the camera, apparently in a more sophisticated way than I can do myself. And best of all, there was no charge for this! 1
Herr Barnack Posted August 17, 2021 Share #16 Posted August 17, 2021 @Ben2094 I'm glad to hear that you got your Q2 sorted out. If anyone can offer an explanation of this reformatting the camera procedure, that would be interesting to know , more about. I have been under the impression that when you install a firmware upgrade, that is what is taking place - but perhaps not.
marchyman Posted August 17, 2021 Share #17 Posted August 17, 2021 Pure guess: he re-formatted the memory card using something like SD Card Formatter using the Overwrite format option.
mikegml Posted March 5, 2022 Share #18 Posted March 5, 2022 Some months old this thread but I was sent here after googling the 'exclamation mark' thing on my Q2. I've just got this 'exclamation mark' on shutdown of my Q2 from last week and yes I've suddenly got the hidden menu and service menu stuff. It also reset the serial nunber ( I can't recall if the S/N was visable on the Q2 before but it now says the SN is 00000000. It's also reset the shutter count (picture count they call it) which most people inc' me didn't know it was available, how many times it's been powered on/off etc and a bunch of other stuff. Leica said bring it in and they'll reset it in about an hour, tho' I suspect they'll reset in about 5 minutes. The camera still works perfect. Umapro Posted October 19, 2023 Share #19 Posted October 19, 2023 Hi - this is more than a year after the original post. I have had the exclamation sign coming up when I turn off my SL2-S for some months now. I have been at several Lieca Sores in Europe, but no-one has solved it yet. In a German store I was told that I would need to leave it for some days so that they could send it to repair, but I am using it all the time, so that's not a good option. And the camera seems to work perfect, although I now also have a connectivity problem with Leica and Capture One (it doesn't connect with either my macbook pro, nor on my Iphone or Ipad mini - using a Tether Tools usb-c to usb-c cable. Mayby these two issues are connected? Anyone has experiences with either? The exclamation sign at shut down - or connecting the SL2-S by cable to to the Capture One iPhone/ipad app?
