Michael Geschlecht Posted June 22, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2021 Hello Henry, Nice photo. That might be a young Bald Eagle in your photo. When Bald Eagles are young their heads do not have the characteristic white top. Best Regards, Michael

Michael Geschlecht Posted June 22, 2021 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2021 (edited) Hello John, If you look at page 99 of Donald & Lillian Stokes "Field Guide To Birds" " Eastern Region" 1996: You will see a photo of a young Bald Eagle with the same dark beak & the same white band going over it. The young Bald Eagle in the book looks pretty much like the bird in the photo. By the way, even tho this is the "Eastern Region" version of their series: They include California when writing about Bald Eagles. Altho they do not do this for all bird species. The book indicates that in much of California Bald Eagles are year around residents. Idawhat Posted June 27, 2021 Share #7 Posted June 27, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Every fall & early winter I see countless bald eagles both young & mature. I don't think this is a juvenile bald eagle. That said, it's a good image. I enjoy seeing the voltage sign.

Idawhat Posted June 28, 2021 Share #9 Posted June 28, 2021 This is a juvenile bald eagle. I'm lucky enough to have seen many over the years. I think your image is of a hawk as you suspected. I was in no way trying to discredit Michael's opinion. It's just that I've seen hundreds of bald eagles over the years. I hope I didn't sound rude by disagreeing.
