As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Thanks ! Do you find that the thin T-E and Rokkor render similarly (in particular, have similar colour ? ) There are significantly less sample images out there for the Rokkor but there is some feedback to suggest that they do. If so the Rokkor is becoming increasingly tempting despite the fact I do agree with many here that T-E is the best choice. considering I own the CLE (and 2 of it’s 3 lenses) the Rokkor would be a nice (aswell as cheap) purchase to complete my set and scratch my 90mm itch. However I won’t do it if the rendering isn’t very similar to the T-E. as I’ve really enjoyed seeing the T-E images, the rendering looks perfect for what I want. Side note being that I probably don’t need the extra stop, so increased flare resistance of the Rokkor would be a very fair trade for me to make for a stop of light. Although if you own then both perhaps they aren’t that similar in rendering ? Edited June 17, 2021 by grahamc

crony Posted June 17, 2021 Share #26 Posted June 17, 2021 (edited) Hi, my 2 M mount 90mm lenses LEITZ Tele-Elmarit-M and Leica Elmarit-M, with fitted hood, and extended hood : Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The LEITZ I bought with my M6 in 1988, the Elmarit-M later, used. The Elmarit-M is a little contrastier, and less fiddly to use with the extended hood. (I would recommend the Elmarit-M as a first second-hand 90mm ... . I use them on my M9s.) a.noctilux Posted June 17, 2021 Share #27 Posted June 17, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Crony good choice. Years ago, I had opportunity to buy (at good price sh) 90mm Elmarit-M (#11807), but declined as I found a bit heavy at 410g, comparing to 225g of T-E or older original Elmarit's 320g that I already owned.

Is simply the "trailing letter" that Leitz conceived and used as part of their new coding system (after the famous "five letters codes" ), and then abandoned some years after. No other meaning : IUFOO changed to 12575N, ITOOY to 12580Q etc... Edited June 17, 2021 by luigi bertolotti

grahamc Posted June 19, 2021 Author Share #31 Posted June 19, 2021 (edited) Thanks everyone for all the input So where I am at is I'm leaning toward the T-E, unless anybody substantiates the rumour that the Rokkor F/2 (2nd edition) renders extremely similarly (especially in colour)... in which case I'll take a chance on the Rokkor - trading a stop of light for better flare resistance. As a CLE owner and shooter that doesn't really need F2.8, that outcome will suit me well . Although if they don't render extremely closely then the T-E it is and will take my chances with flare - since I really like the samples I've seen from T-E, the rendering style would suit me perfectly it seems. Cheers G Edited June 19, 2021 by grahamc

Thanks Crony , how do you find the characteristics of the Elmarit-M to compare to T-E other than contrast ? Elmarit-M has been mentioned a few times as being a good option since it's also not too big and heavy. Although based on the production years I have a pre-conceived idea that it will give a more modern look than my set (35mm v4 Cron, 50mm v3 Cron), however that could all be in my head. Would welcome any more thoughts on how it compares to the T-E (which I am leaning to since it fits very well the era I'm currently owning lenses from). Cheers ! I had said thanks for sending the side-by-side photo (of Rokkor and T-E) and asked that since you own both, if you can possibly advise how closely do they render please. Or I should say, how closely does the Rokkor render to the T-E... Because I've now seen wealth of pics out there now from the T-E and really like it's character. Great match for my existing lenses as many here have advised. However the extra stop is not essential for me, so if the v2 Rokkor does really get close (in particular with colour rendition) I may trade the extra stop for better flare control. There are way less sample pics out there for the Rokkor but some say that these 2 lenses render very closely Thanks @lct

Mostly (due to frameline convenience) my 35mm and 50mm's I use on the MD , and 28m/40mm Rokkor's on the CLE. The 90 FL is the only one that will be a sharer since both systems have 90mm lines Edited June 19, 2021 by grahamc

This said, i would compare the Rokkor 90/4 v2 to the T-E 90/2.8 somewhat the same way as the Rokkor 40/2 v2 vs the Leica 40/2. Both Leica and Minolta lenses have the same Mandler character sort of with less flare on the Minolta. The difference flare wise is more obvious on the Rokkor 90 which is one of my favorite 90's from this viewpoint. Now if you don't shoot often into the light, i would prefer the T-E for its small size at f/2.8. As for the Elmarit 90/2.8 v2 it is an excellent lens with less flare than the T-E and i don't see any mismatch with the 35/2 v4 which was being sold at the same time for many years. The only issue with 90/2.8 v2 is size and weight as explained by our colleagues above. FWIW.

I do shoot into the light often so may go for the Rokkor. Good to know that feedback on the 90/2.8 v2 also thanks
a.noctilux Posted June 19, 2021 Share #39 Posted June 19, 2021 Graham, this would be my choice (if using with CLE plus M-D), but yours may differ : 1 - Tele-Elmarit 'thin' firstly for size/weight and as I know that a good long hood can help, a must have 12575 carried reversed 2 - Old Elmarit for sake of "right period thing" and it's a bit long but not as heavy to carry/use as the newer Elmarit-M 3 - why not the older Elmar in LTM (as I stated before plus adapter M) cheap very light but as good (or even better than T-E in some use )
