Received my Voigtlander 28mm Ultron f2 ASPH Type II yesterday! Just waiting for my Silver Chrome MP to arrive, but I’m stoked to try this out.

a few things: the weight is hefty (made of brass), the focusing smooth, and aperture ring perfectly clicky.

In the meantime, here are some photos if people are wondering about what it looks like in real life:

Cool.

Is it possible to see it on any M camera?

They say is it 5 см long lens. Kinda on longer side for M lens, IMO.

From the base of the external part of the lens to the front of the lens (the part of the lens you’d actually see when mounted on an M camera) it’s roughly 3.5cm without lens hood or filter. It’s honestly pretty tiny. I don’t have a camera to mount it to (hence, waiting for my MP to show up), but I can say that, coming from my Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AI-S which is a stop slower, it’s about 3x smaller.

Very intriguing. I had all kind of different RF 28mm lenses, but sold them. Size was driving me nuts with some. This one looks lovely and priced for regular people.

Can't wait to see it on your MP to show up. Sounds like great combo already.

SLR lenses never been even close to RF lenses. I had Nikkor 28 3.5, btw :) , now Vivitar 28/2. Awesome lens :) .

Ya I'll for sure post photos of the setup once I get the MP in the mail! And ya, honestly for an ASPH 28mm f2, It's 1/6th the cost of the 28mm Summicron, and given Voigtlander's recent optics they've been releasing, I'm guessing the optics here are going to be very competitive.

Lovely lens. Just wish the silver version were chromed instead of painted. Should have been possible given the brass lens barrel.

Same spirit as CV 35/2 and CV 21/3.5 i suspect. Well made, small, sharp and affordable. I wish it had less CA than the 21/3.5 though.

Oh? Do you have any blog articles or something stating it has worse CA? I haven’t seen anything about this lens yet on the internet which is why I posted

if it's like its sibling the 35mm ultron ii, then it is going to perform roughly the same as the Leica 28mm Summicron ASPH, congrats!

I'm pretty sure it will lag behind Summicron... but considering price/performance ratio... yes Voigtlander is great.

I wouldn't be so sure - but we probably need to wait for totally objectives tests (Sean Reid comes to mind) to find out.

Much of the lens talk on the Forum seems to revolve around 'rendering', 'the way it draws' and 'is it to clinical' etc., so many should find this option very attractive, irrespective of price, which is a huge bonus!

I tried to get clarification on this from Stephen Gandy of Cameraquest (as I was looking at the 35 also). From what I can gather - can’t find his email - the silver 28 is chrome on brass, but for some reason I think the 35 is painted. He was going to check. I’m not sure if anyone has the silver 35 yet to confirm?

I’m looking for a small/light/silver set of 28/35/50 for travel & street instead of my lux/Nocti set up.

FM started his review:

I am not familiar with his style, but does he suggest in the comments about 'centreing' that this was a specially prepared review lens?
