roland2 Posted April 21, 2021 Share #1  Posted April 21, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently purchased a used 50mm Summilux-M ASPH. Just got it yesterday and compared to my summicrons 90mm, 50mm and 35mm, the aperture ring seems very loose. The aperture blades work fine, picture quality is excellent. Its just the aperture ring has a lots of play. I've done some searching and finding mixed messages about whether this is common, including some here on the forum about what does "loose" mean. Some say it is common with the 50 Summilux and built with looser rings than other Leica Lens, others say it isn't. With that I decided to do a video of my "loose" aperture ring. Take a look and let me know your thoughts.. If you have experience with the 50lux was the aperture ring similar to mine. If you've had this issue what is the best alternative to repair it? Thanks You can find the video here.... https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/Pt0PVva15UjYAtk9Xfc2gva5V4F3YPNW1t7yUcLHeJZ   Edited April 21, 2021 by roland2 correct words
Advertisement Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Hi roland2, Take a look here Loose Aperture Ring - 50mm Summilux M asph. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
plaidshirts Posted April 21, 2021 Share #2  Posted April 21, 2021 Can you feel the ring click into the various apertures? I don't have a lux but both my 35 and 50 crons (both v5) show a bit of play when set. It's hard to gauge the looseness based on your video, but it doesn't seem all that extreme to me. The best way to be sure may be to visit a Leica store and compare with the lenses there.

I was thinking the same, visit my local Leica store to compare. Thanks for the quick response. My Summicrons have little to no play. In comparison this ring is very loose. Danner Posted April 21, 2021 Share #4  Posted April 21, 2021 Don't have that lens, but do have Summicrons, Tele-Elmarit, and Tele-Elmar.  None of them are that loose.  Being that the Summilux is top-quality, and rather expensive, I would take it back and look for another.
lct Posted April 21, 2021 Share #5  Posted April 21, 2021 Just sample variation in my experience. Stiff focus ring was another issue with this lens. Easy fix if it bothers you too much.

Any good repairer can do it together with a CLA. DAG in the USA for instance. Leica can do it as well but it will be more expensive and it will take longer. Eliet Posted January 12, 2022 Share #12  Posted January 12, 2022 Roland, thanks, I watched your video very carefully. It’s exactly the same with my Summilux-M 50, which is an amazing 3D lens. No worries. Enjoy it.
