Any examples?

Here you can see the look you will get on the pictures of the black M5. But it will look the same on all Black Chrome bodys. the black will get kinda dull and grey and on the heavy used parts you will see the silver color.

Look at P-Wijk's post earlier in the thread. That is a black chrome MP, and while the wear does look fake the colour under the black is silver, masked somewhat by the warm colour cast in the photos making it look less silvery. That silver won't go away anytime soon,..... unless more sandpaper is used.

Apologies for going off-topic for a mo' but this sort of thing - written in the link about Garry Winogrand's M4 - really annoys the Hell out of me;

"I am told Mrs. Winogrand  had very strong feelings that her husband's camera should be continued to used after his death.  She sold it to a family friend, who continues to shoot  it to this day....Before Winogrand's M4 was loaned to me to photograph, the present owner was actually walking around taking pics, mounting a 50/1 Noctilux. True story, believe it or not. Some people wouldn't know a collectible if it bit them on their Dektol."

What is it that the "journalist" (or whatever he/she is) does not understand about what she/he has just written? Complete fcukwit. Good on Mrs. Winogrand and good for the family friend who, I'm 100% bloody certain, knows exactly what - and where - the value of Garry's camera rests.

OK; sorry for the interruption.

Back to our scheduled programmes.

Philip.

Yeah I thought the same that was a pretty poor closing line after an informative article wasn’t it. Or did we miss the point (sarcasm?).  I wondered this also!

It didn't come across that way to me, Graham, but - dutifully - I'll reconsider and restrain my Pavlovian reaction; rethink the possibilities from the point of view of your own generously offered 'Get Out of Jail Free Card' suggestion and tell the Hit Squad to belay my orders issued sometime earlier today...

Let us just hope that 'Sarcasm' was the intention and that the "journalist" merely needs to hone their craft. A Lot.

But I doubt it.

I've always thought the 'Dektol' line was a well intentioned dig at people who collect cameras and think they should be retired when it reaches a certain age, rarity, or price. The very final line right at the bottom of the page "I've never seen the image of film worn into a pressure plate before,  he may have used it too much......nah.." seals it for me.

OK; that's good enough for me and, having re-read the artice, think both Graham and yourself understood the review much more clearly than I did myself.

Thanks both!

I think you are misreading the point being made. The Cameraquest site is run by Stephen Gandy, a well known camera dealer and distributor of Voigtländer lenses in the US. I don't know him personally but I'm pretty sure he is not a fuckwit and is someone who fully appreciates the appropriateness of Winogrand's camera being owned by a photographer rather than a collector.

Yes, Ian, thanks for your reply which further backs-up this reading of the paragraph .

After the posts by both Graham and Steven (#25 & #28) I re-read the review this morning and realise that I had completely misjudged the tone of the phrase in question and have written as much in post #29 just above.

Apologies offered to all concerned for my erroneous interpretation.
