Hi

I'm looking for precise info about the front element of M2 viewfinder.

Anybody knows if the surfaces are flat and parallel? Thickness, width and height?

Thank you so much for any help!

I have now one open so I measured it, dimensions in mm, it is flat-concave. Do you think about making your own one? I do not know the focus length

jerzy, that's super!

Just to be sure: see the attached figure. I know it's not an M2, so it might be different... Is your picture refferred to A or B element?

I've checked on my old M2 top-plate and, if you are asking about part 'A', it is perfectly flat on both front and rear surfaces which are also parallel to each other.

As near as I can measure it the glass is approx 23.5mm x 15mm x 1mm. The glass is cemented in place so it can't easily be removed to allow me to measure with complete accuracy. Perhaps someone else might have one 'loose' and can measure it to closer tolerances.

Philip.

"A "element is just piece of glass (I believe 1mm thick, flat-flat), this is fixed in the top cover. I was showing element B which is mounted within rangefinder assy. Picture that you attached is a good representation of M2 rangefinder

interesting, do you know someone who would do it? Not glass, I suppose acryl. Correct?. I need few lenses for I and Standard viewer, cannot get them so if  had  someone who can make it would be great.

If the front window A is what you are referring to, so flat glass, then look for 'glass microscope slides' on ebay. I've used them to repair rangefinder windows on medium format cameras, you just need to cut them to size with a diamond file or glass cutter.

thx for the info, I bought once some of them. However I made a mistake - I measured element A, glass is something like 1,3mm thick, but 1,5mm glass will fit as well, fixing to the top cover is a bit flexible. 1mm glass is used for the small rangfinder window and bearing the size of element A in mind 1mm glass might be too delicate for this one. The small rangfinder window on the contrary must not be thicker, it will not fit into the holder.

Unfortunately I don't but there are 3D scanning  and printing services. Google yields plenty, I found this one for instance.
