In my current thinking about where the MF is going in view of the GFX100S, I've done a lot of shooting with the X1D lenses and realized again how hard you have to work to keep infinity focus in place.  The EVF focus-by-wire setups seem inherently unable to stay in place:

The S lenses, OYOH, have a mechanical distance scale.  The difference from the M lenses is that the focusing ring does not stop at the shortest focusing distance or infinity but rather starts to slip, as is probably required for the AF gears.

Can one assume that the points of resistance are the true closest focus and infinity?

I usually try to find which part of the infinity symbol on each lens best marks infinity so that I can double check the AF (or just set it). Then there's live view focus peaking, but that's slow and difficult with a  longer lens and no IBIS. I really should practice purely visual MF, but I'm lazy.
