I used to limit my M typ 262 to 3200 ISO in colour and 6400 ISO in B&W (banding issues after that)

but I am happy to use my CL until 12800 ISO in colour and until 25000 ISO in B&W

CL also has better dynamic at base ISO.

M10 has slightly better high ISO performance.
But it suffered of a weird ISO 100. At this settings highlights will be blown. Its real base ISO in practice is 200. Combined with 1/4000th max shutter speed. It makes using fast lens wide open difficult.

Whereas CL has a real and usable ISO 100 and a very fast 1/8000th mechanical shutter or 1/25000th electronic one. It is awesome for very fast lens when the sun is shining brightly.

It's the opposite.

My M's are taking over from the CL.

I  used the CL for telephoto, and discovered the 55-135 can be beaten by the M10M 90mm Macro-Elmar.

The 11-23 TL zoom is terrific, but I have a 12mm on the M that is wider.

So now, the CL is used with it's 18mm for a pocketable quite light camera that I am willing to hand to someone else to take the picture, thanks to the AF.

Two more reasons why I am happy to use the M10 in addition to the CL: Elmar-M 50mm and Tri-Elmar-M 28-35-50mm. The former obviously can't collapse with the CL and the latter becomes quite boring due to the extension factor. Both are among my favourite lenses. I hardly used them with the CL but rediscovered them with the M10.

I bought the CL to replace my venerable but still totally functional M8. I seem to have ended up with both. There is something about the traditional M range that's hard to let go. Anyway the CL doesn't do infra red!

Matter of tastes again. I use more my MATE on APS-C and the Elmar-M 50/2.8 it is my favorite 50 on both formats .

MATE was my favorite lens with M9 before it was stolen. But now I am happier with X Vario.

M240 + Summicorn-M is irreplacible, but the margin is tolerable to me.

Which one would you keep/marry/kill? (Or perhaps both?)

Not quite sure myself, at the moment. I also have an M6 and a version of M lenses from 21 through 135.

Gadfly, Where did you get the black Leica logo for the CL? I'd love to get a couple. Thanks, Mitch

Hi, I do not know where to purchase any black dots :(

I removed the original red dot and let it sit in Acetone for a day. Later, I sprayed on black lacquer paint and removed the paint from the raised surface with a cotton swab and wooden toothpick. Finally, I dipped the piece in clear acrylic.

The dot was re-glued with a low-tack semi-permanent glue. It can be removed at any time and swapped with an original red dot if I wish.

I got a CL about a year back to use as a supplement to my M system.  (I have a M 240, M246, a film M and a good collection of lenses.)  I got the CL for those times when zoom, electronic viewfinders, and AF are useful.  I have still predominately used my M cameras over the last year, but I am slowly coming to the conclusion that the CL is all that I really need, and might trade out the M240 for a CL2 when it arrives if I like the additional features.  I am also thinking of trading out the M246 for the Q2M as almost all my mono work is between 28-50mm, and if I need to get outside that range then the CL could handle it.  I would keep my M lenses as they work well on the CL, but I am a bit nervous about giving up digital M camera capability altogether.  Anyone else been down a similar path?

Do it and don't look back.
