Shu_downunder Posted April 4, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 4, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone have experience using a Zeiss Batis F2.0/40 on a Leica SL2/s? I’m considering a SL2s for my 5 R lenses and first M lens on the way. I also have a Seize Batis F2.0/40 which used on an a7. As the a7 doesn’t have eye detect focus and some other advance features the sl2-s has, I’m wondering if I can use it differently as the following: sl2s + Batis 2.0/40 (if it works) a7 + say, 4/80-200 I know it’s a bit wired to swap the lenses and not using them on the bodies they supposed to. But as long as it works, the sl2s’ advance AF would make better use of the Batis 2.0/40, while a7 always give good result with 4/80/200. This combination would be lovely for a family day trip. So my question is, sl2s + Batis 2.0/40, will it work at all? and what adapter to use?

Simone_DF Posted April 4, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 4, 2021 That is not possible. Sony FE flange distance is 18mm, Leica L is 20mm.

There’s also the question of electronic aperture control and focusing which would require an adapter that takes up additional space for which none exists. This made me look up XCD and GFX flange distances. Apparently XCD is 18.14mm (+0.05/-0.00), I wonder who so tantalizingly close!:)

The all have Zeiss filters with coatings which match the lenses which were quite difficult to get at the time .
