hirohhhh Posted April 1, 2021 Share #1  Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) What would be the widest lens that can get attached to SL? Prime, zoom, vintage, doesn't matter. I've recently started playing with wide lens on my iPhone and really like the angles that I cannot achieve with my SL. The widest I have is 24mm on 24-90 SL zoom lens. Is 16-35 the widest we have or there are some wider non-SL lenses that can be mounted? meerec Posted April 1, 2021 Share #2  Posted April 1, 2021 Voigtländer 10mm f/5.6 M mount ... wonderful
RoySmith Posted April 1, 2021 Share #3  Posted April 1, 2021 The Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical III works very very well on the SL. They also make a 10mm and a 12mm, but I have no experience with them. Of course the Leica SVE 16-35mm SL is terrific. You would need the LM adapter on the Voigtlander lenses as they are M Mount lenses.

FlashGordonPhotography Posted April 2, 2021 Share #8 Â Posted April 2, 2021 (edited) The Canon 8-15mm fisheye works with the MC-21. Not much wider than that.... 9mm would be the widest rectilinear lens (Laowa) and 14mm is the widest native lens (14-24). The SL's system adaptability means you have many many options. I don't know, but I doubt there's any difference apart from the lens mount. But why you need the M mount version when they also sell a native L version? But why you need the M mount version when they also sell a native L version? I prefer the L version to avoid mounts. I just found out that the M version has rangefinder coupling and L doesn't. Never heard about it before, and not sure if I need it. I'm reading it now to find out. If anyone knows what would be the advantage of rangefinder coupling in wide lenses, please let me know. Also, I'd say the M version is ASP-C, and the L is full frame lens? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Rangefinder coupling is active only on a Leica M camera. It will not help the SL family of cameras. The Laowa 9mm F5.6 FF M version is specified to be full frame. Laowa had an older F2.8/Zero-D model which was not full frame. There are 3 user reviews on B&H’s Website. I’m not sure how this lens would work on the SL, but it could  be a fun lens to play with. If you do not have, or plan to get, a Leica M get the L version.

hirohhhh Posted April 6, 2021 Author Share #15 Â Posted April 6, 2021 Got Laowa 9mm f/5.6 today. It's already dark, so I cannot test it properly, but I cannot figure out why Auto Magnification doesn't work with this lens? I can set the FN button to manually magnify, but it doesn't work automatically like with some other lenses I have.

If you got the L mount version, it's probably because it doesn't have electronic contacts
