kivis Posted March 23, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I am intrigued by this little accessory. Anybody using this on their film Leica? Or am I being lazy even considering one? Edited March 23, 2021 by kivis
Advertisement Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Hi kivis, Take a look here Anyone using a Voigtlander VC II Meter on their film Leica?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted March 23, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2021 Yes, very modern meter comparing to Leicameters only one thing bothered me ISO setting a bit too loose may (must ? ) be checked before taking a metering that was habit to live with anyway : ISO read, if ok push the orange button, turn speed and/or aperture ring (always preset to the lighting condition), now I don't use it anymore, as my "learn-to-set-after-lighting-conditions" proved that metering was not necessary with M-A + 400ISO films Welcome, dear visitor! johnkunstadter Posted March 23, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2021 Have used a VC II for years: a very handy reflective-mode meter, fits easily into any M camera hot shoe. The VC II has tighter ISO and aperture rings than the old VC I, where one constantly had to check to see that the meter was measuring at the chosen ISO or aperture. As with any other +-30 degree reflective metering (e.g., the Sekonic L-308S-U in reflective mode), one has to adjust for the desired level of shadow detail in any high-contrast scene. The VC II's price ($225 at CameraQuest or B&H) leaves it vulnerable to newer competition at more or less half the price from, for instance, the KEKS EM-01 (also very handy), although since KEKS produces in batches, the wait time on delivery from Taiwan can be more than a month.
Anbaric Posted March 23, 2021 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2021 There's quite a lot of competition in the small hotshoe meter market now, and some are quite a bit cheaper than the VC II. This one is a very similar design: https://kamerastore.com/my-day-with-the-doomo-d-light-meter/ https://www.35mmc.com/08/02/2021/doomo-meter-d-light-meter-review-for-the-analogue-experience/ and there are alternatives that are cheaper again with digital displays: https://johnnymartyr.wordpress.com/2020/03/05/upgrade-your-meterless-film-camera/
TomB_tx Posted March 23, 2021 Share #5 Posted March 23, 2021 Reveni labs is working on a spot meter version that could be interesting.
plaidshirts Posted March 23, 2021 Share #6 Posted March 23, 2021 I use one on my M2. It works well and looks the part. It tends to move a bit in the shoe so I put a piece of tape to help it stay put.
Ouroboros Posted March 23, 2021 Share #7 Posted March 23, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) It’s a simple reflective meter, but overpriced for what it is. I think it looks absurd mounted on an M-A, but each to their own. There are better options IMO. For example the Gossen Twinmate or L308 Iare pocketable and less expensive with the added versatility of incident metering (or flash metering with the L308).

I use incident metering almost exclusively so that pretty much discounts meters like the Keks and Voigtlander.
1joel1 Posted March 24, 2021 Share #9 Posted March 24, 2021 I have the Leica and the Voigtlander. I had to calibrate the Leica meter, but it is coupled to the shutter speed dial and I like that. I also like how it looks on the M4-P. Joel

andrew01 Posted March 27, 2021 Share #11 Posted March 27, 2021 I use one on my M3. It does seem to be accurate but I agree with the reviews above that it is way too easy for the ISO to be accidentally changed. It is also quite easy to knock the meter out of the shoe when taking the camera out of my camera backpack. I am thinking of trying a sekonic L-308.
