wlaidlaw Posted November 19 Share #1141 Posted November 19 Advertisement (gone after registration) Given that it is ex-US Navy and for 70mm film, I wonder if the mount might be Graflex Combat Graphic. My 70mm film Combat Graphic is ex-US Navy/Marines. Am I tempted - yes for about 3 seconds before common sense set in. Wilson

Zoomar made a reflex housing for the Combat Graphic and some Zoomar lenses. A new adapter would be required, if there were enough room between the back of the lens and the front of the Zoomar reflex housing which is equally large as the Graflex. I also am not convinced of the auction description. If it were used on a US battleship (and by the time this lens was made only the four Iowa-class battleships still were listed as being in service), it would be painted gray. Further Zoomar made weather sealed 2000mm Reflectar mirror lenses frequently used by the US military for such purposes. I don't see any weather sealing on this lens. Also the Astro Berlin lens is not unique to the military; white was not unique for military use either. The mounting system may be all that is unique to the military or to some other non-photographic use.

Only one made, said to have been destroyed by the RAF. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! wlaidlaw Posted Wednesday at 11:05 PM Share #1144 Posted Wednesday at 11:05 PM In LTM mount William 😄? Zeiss quite recently made a 1700mm F4 APO Sonnar lens in Hasselblad CF mount. I remember seeing it at Photokina 2006. The little black square at the back is a large Hasselblad 500 Series to give some idea of the size of this lens. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! Basically it was used to look across the Channel and see what you were having for breakfast 😍, but the RAF soon put a halt to its gallop. romanus53 Posted Thursday at 06:00 AM Share #1146 Posted Thursday at 06:00 AM Once upon a time (means yers ago) I meet a guy serving in France at the Channel Coast during WW II. They started observing the british coast with long lenses made by Astro Berlin, later Zeiss was involved. They aimed at the than new britsh radar antenneas, took some shots, measured the wires and calculated the fequencies used (and obtained some EK's). As indicated on the drawings shown (I.R.) the used film sensible for infra red rays. He showd me a IR-glass-plate shot of the full moon. The later lenses were all katadioptic designs.
