Verdict - the latest lens is no good. Here's what Ye (the CLA guy) says:

The lens has the typical optical cement deterioration problem, beyond cleaning.  Leica already ran out of parts a long time ago. The lens is only good for parts.

I think the fates have decided that this glorious lens just isn't for me. I've read all about the new remake classic line of this lens, seen some pics, and IMO it doesn't come close to creating magic as I've seen in this thread, so I'm going to pass on it.

As Mick Jagger wisely said: you don't always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need :)

That's sad to hear. So what will you do now? Continue looking for a V3, or give up and keep your ASPH?

I think I'll just keep the asph. Maybe in a year when people who initially bought and are now tired of the classic remake, I may get one. Meanwhile I've been enjoying my 35 steel rim reissue - it gives me sufficient glow when I need a glow fix :)

By the way, Ye did confirm that if you've got a lens that doesn't have separation, don't let it bake in the sun when you're using it, and keep it on a cool dry shelf when not in use, chances are that it won't get separation down the road.

Don’t go out too often at night but here are a couple of rare ones with this lens after the sun has gone down.

I asked the sheep if they could line up and stand still so I could take a picture of them, but for the most part they ignored my request and just continued chewing grass. It was a challenge to photograph them wide open.

Got the film back from lab and did scanning by myself (SilverFast 9 / Epson 700) ... and now it look much smoother.

Great photo 👍🏻

I need to push myself to do a better job in developing film as well scanning film 😅 now is the best time to pick up these skills as my summer project.

Just watch the temperature of your chemicals, as in the summer the water out of the ground can be too warm.
