Hello there,

I have a 12504 lenshood which I use on my 35mm Summilux Pre-Asph (and a series vii protective filter) with no problems whatsover. It does have a vented hood as per images here https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/12504

However I was wondering if there was a way to maybe screw a square hood in order to replace the rounded (and vented) hood it comes with. Reason is that I just do not like the round hood as it's a tad bigger than what square hoods normally are.

Cheers

When I need a hood for my 35/i.4 Summilux pre-asph (v2) I use the square 12524 hood from my 35/2 Summicron Mk4 if that helps?

Pete.

Thanks for your response. Problem with the aforementioned hood is that it won't allow me to mount any series 7 filter. I would basically need the benefit of using a filter (that the 12504 lenshood provides) along with the square hood. That's why I was wondering if there was a square hood that would screw on top of the 12504 side that takes filters.

If the upper half were square it would not stay straight i suspect but i have never seen such an accessory sorry.

Not direct help, but one solution I've found for this "difficult for filter lens" ( Summilux 35mm pre-asph.) that I use since decades.

The filters E40.5 that I have roughly have same size as the lens's front.

Not a quick solution needing some managements.

So I use thin tape to fix E40.5 filter, then use the square hood 12524/12526 with the prong cut to be fixed on the lens groove.

If I remember, the hood 12524/26 can vignette a bit, so I shave the four corners of the square hood, when I want to avoid vignetting corners in pictures.

Four dabs of nail polish can be add on the 4 places on the lens' s groove to help from hood's rotation.

I took care not to rotate the hood when in use, as small rotation can vignette as well.
