Advertisement Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Hi farnz, Take a look here A personal Leica Lens Register?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
01maciel Posted February 6, 2021 Author Share #22 Posted February 6, 2021 The GUI is very time consuming. The lens detail form looks a bit more tidy in the meantime. Here are a few screen captures. The lens detail form got two Tab-Panels. The right one on the right hand side is just for personal purchase/sold activities per lens. The first tab on the left hand side (Focal Specifics) looks like that: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! A click on to the "Lens Details" changes the tab. A double click on an attribute like "Angle of View" shows some detailed information from the Internet next to the tab. This is actually a gimmick, not really needed (but possible;). The next tab shows the technical data. The last tab shows the rest of the information which do not fit into the given categories. Still a lot of work to do, in particular: -functionality (change, update and new record) - search information On my medium-term TODO list are the following points: Import Leica lens data > 50mm Import serial no per batch R lens specifics (single/twin/.. cam, etc) Info on CLA So don't expect any final version in the near future. Any suggestions/feedback would be much appreciated.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 01maciel Posted February 12, 2021 Author Share #23 Posted February 12, 2021 (edited) Made some progress these days in design and functionality. It is a lot of fun to develop the application as I am learning by doing. I uploaded a video to show the latest beta version. More than enough IMO. I'd allow for multiple CLAs for each lens. If there's a trade-off to be made (due to space, complexity, etc.), I'd rather just keep the date of the CLA, the name of the person/organisation who did it and the actual cost, along with a free text field to add comments. But that's just me.

But that's just me. Here you go, just a proposal. The next image shows the Purchase tab (test data). Once you own a lens there is an option for a automatic CLA check in. A click on the button with the rectangle populates relevant data into the CLA tab, e.g. the serial no. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! A click onto the CLA tab (green arrow) lists the CLA for this specific lens (Summilux 35mm Pre Asph II 1981). You can have as much CLA for this lens as you like/need), called 1:n relation. The next image shows an overview in a table of all CLA (in this case just one) Double-click on row to see the details. These are more than enough details but I put no mandatory fields in there so you may or may not fill them all out. The dates (created, last change) are locked and always inserted/updated automatically by a trigger in the database. Any feedback about features, spelling, wording etc is much appreciated.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Ecar Posted February 15, 2021 Share #28 Posted February 15, 2021 Impressive! Looks great to me. One small comment: not sure how it affects DB management, but you may want to ensure consistency in the date format. I see at least 3 different formats in the screenshots above. Keep it up: looking forward to seeing how this evolves into the finished tool!
01maciel Posted February 20, 2021 Author Share #29 Posted February 20, 2021 Does anyone know where I can upload a beta version of the application (size is about 20 MB) to? A public host or something like that would be perfect. There is lot of information available on lenses in general. My approach was to organise them in categories and provide the information in tabs (Focal Specifics, Overview, ..). Hope it makes sense otherwise it can be changed. Once you entered your purchases and sales there are four simple reports to show off what you own, sold and what is currently on sale (second image). Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The reports may show the truth of buying and selling. It's not me on the line here, but I think the absolute worst that could realistically happen is a takedown request. Images could be replaced with user-taken ones, and I bet that folks would be happy to help. Lens information is available all over (e.g. B&H Photo purchase pages) and cannot realistically be considered a trade secret.
01maciel Posted February 21, 2021 Author Share #33 Posted February 21, 2021 I'll have a closer look. Compared to a simple upload it seems to be a bit clunky.

01maciel Posted February 22, 2021 Author Share #35 Posted February 22, 2021 I am happy to provide a first beta release of The Lens Register. If you are an photography aficionado the application enables you to manage lenses in general, your purchases, sales and clean-lube-adjust (CLA) jobs. There are a lot of information about lenses available so I organised them into different tabs within an icon panel. Thanks to LUF members who helped me to find some more use cases for the application. The Lens Register comes with about 90 lenses including specific information about their characteristics. The information can be edited and completed for your purpose. I imported the data from the Wiki-M-Lenses. It was quite a lot of work as the import was just a semi-automatic process - the other half was manual work. Images of the lenses are available (all marked as copyright protected) so you'll know what to purchase next. If you have your own images you are able to drag and drop them to the appropiate lens. Adding personal information about purchases, sales and CLA can be done easily in separate tabs. All information (except lens images) is stored in a database. The application as well as the database have a very cool performance. The database is rock solid - so the application is (so far, knock knock on wood). As I noted in the first post there is a catch with the Lens Register. The Lens Register is a free software (GPL licensed) primarily aimed at the Linux platform. If you run Windows 10 and there is a Linux subsystem installed it may work (not tested). If anyone is interested in this application feel free to volunteer as a friendly test user. I would appreciate your feedback. Readme first Download here (tar.gz), A Personal Lens Register The file could be extracted in any directory of your choice. The executable file is located in the directory "Lenses" called Lenses.gambas. Sicne the source code is available you may compile the application on your own computer. Feel free to use it, enhance it or just to browse through the code.
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted February 22, 2021 Share #36 Posted February 22, 2021 (edited) Really nice project. Congrats on the rich features you already included. Perhaps "focus shift" could be added, and maybe "optimised for film / known digital problems" could be another parameter. Ex: Italian flag corner problem on digital bodies, recommend to select XYZ from the digital body lens profile. Ex: XYZ lens rear too deep, will damage digital sensor / will damage the metering arm of the M5 Edited February 23, 2021 by TheGodParticle/Hari
