Louis - Thank you.

Mike - Thank you, but bravery is not an issue. Gorillas are very peaceful, and the families of gorillas tourists visit are  somewhat habituated to people. - For the most part they ignore you.  For the protection of the gorillas you must remain at least 5 meters away from them (sometimes difficult if a youngster is curious), primarily to avoid giving them any of our diseases .  If you have a cold you cannot go on a trek -- We share a huge percentage of DNA with them.  In the Republic of Congo we also had to wear masks.  In Uganda, Rwanda and Congo you are limited to just an hour with t family.   Barbara quipped, regarding how they largely ignore us, that they mutter to one another to pay the humans no heed -- they'll get bored and leave us within an hour.

Ah - that takes me back quite a few years... One of the most emotive experiences of my life - one of the most muddy too ;) Thanks for posting.

Did you visit other parts of Uganda too?  QE Natioonal Park? Murchinson falls? Ruwenzori?

Jaap -

Thank you.  This was in February 2009, and we visited both Uganda and Rwanda, doing gorilla trekking in both countries, but oh so much more.  In just Uganda, after a start in Entebbe, we first visited Nbamba Island, staying over two nights, and doing a forest walk with the chimps (the young females loved to ride on my back piggyback style).  From there to QE park, then Bwindi, then Mgahinga National Park.  After that, Rwanda.  You can see Barbara's detailed trip notes at this link:  Uganda & Rwanda Feb 09 (barbara-and-stu.com)
