I had to answer the siren song of M and once I did, Q didn't feel like anything anymore. I had to have the rangefinder experience. Both Q and Pen-F are long gone.

Q's technical superiority remains a fact but it's just 1000 times more satisfying doing your own mistakes in focus or metering exposure.

I’ve just answered the siren song of a digital M and wow, wish I’d done it earlier. It’s everything I want in a camera, although keeping the Q-P for kids where autofocus helps a lot.

With the M I feel like a photographer. With the Q and other brands I feel like I’m taking snapshots

Damn :D

What'd you get?

For me it was a transition from Q (116) to M-P typ 240 and Leica Summicron 35 ASPH. I had to acclimate and digest it all for a bit because suddenly I was spending major bucks for gear that was objectively worse (the 35 Summicron is arguably way softer than Q's Summilux-28) but it didn't last long until I started to let go of pixel peeping and enjoy and prefer the nicer rendering of the 35 'cron. And what was one day the most natural thing with Q felt suddenly artificial and computery when I got really into the M.

Hi all,

I have had the Q for a few years now and really enjoy it... to the point that I haven't mounted my 24mm or even the 50mm on my D800E for a couple of years now.  When I travel these days, I carry my Q and my D800E with the 70-200... unfortunately, they are getting heavier every year...

I am contemplating on getting the CL with a Summicron 75mm SL and not carry my D800E anymore... (I am comfortable with manual focus but not sure for how many more years.)

Does this make any sense?  What else do others do here?

I am comfortable with the Q (not Q) even if I have to crop down to 50mm... I don't print big...

Thanks,

Cheuwi

Up until a few days ago I was holding on to a Fuji X100F next to a Q2. Sold the X100F and kept the Q2 as my only camera. I am becoming a firm believer that the old dictum “one camera - one lens” has great value if one’s needs can be supported this way; i appreciate this may not be the case for everyone, but if it is (and, believe me, it takes some serious thinking and soul searching to find out!) I highly recommend it. You can see my gear journey through the years on my website: writelight.net/gear/

By the way, talking about photographic needs that can be served by this particular one camera, I believe that anything short of stadium sports and wildlife is within limits for the Q2. I don’t shoot either, so I am in good shape:)

I’m beginning to wonder about one camera one lens. Not convinced yet but we have just come home from a few days away. I used the a7riv with a Sigma 85 art for three images only. The other 65 that I kept were with the Q2. It would be a big step for me, but ...

Update, the other camera to sit alongside the Q2M will be......... a Q2. On order, delivery expected in a couple of days. I will keep my Canon 5d mk iv, still have a 5d mk 2 somewhere.

Can you explain the rationale for having the Q2 alongside the Q2M? I dont mean to be rude, just wondering how it can complement eachother knowing that the Q2 you can convert your images to B&W. Im also debating on what to get. This is going to be my first leica. The pandemic just postponed my purchase. Congrats on your setup!

Thanks! Well it wasn’t planned. The Q2M was my first Leica, I specifically wanted an only black and white camera. Whether this camera is right for you I don’t know, it depends on what type of photography you like, what other equipment you have already, & how much time you like post processing I guess?

I have a Fuji XT-1 with prime lenses. I dont do post processing (but will learn if I buy the leica) So im thinking Q2M would be more easier to post process than the color Q2? also the Fuji would be my color camera and the Q2M for B&W.
