To add just a bit to this thread, I remember experiencing the finder flare but it was infrequent and do not think it was ever a factor in deciding to sell whatever the current model of the camera I was using at the time.  Usually I sold the camera model in order to buy a new model (and this was before digital where it has become a somewhat routine occurrence for those that have to have the latest and greatest).  

I recently saw a video on youtube which shows Red Dot Camera in Oregon saying they can replace the small condenser lens in the viewfinder for $150 so it would be fairly easy and cheap to update a M4-2, M4-P, M6 and M6TTL to the flare free finder of the MP or earlier M2/4/5 cameras.  Again, I remember the flare but it was very infrequent and moving your eye around usually cured the problem.
