P1505 Posted January 23, 2021 Author Share #41  Posted January 23, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve folded cardboard up and am using a Velcro strap for extra holding. It fell off in the woods so hoping the Velcro will help. To anyone in the fence about this, do it. It’s so fun and the new perspective is interesting. Advertisement Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 Hi P1505, Take a look here External EVF for waist level work.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
P1505 Posted February 3, 2021 Author Share #42  Posted February 3, 2021 An update to this - a local company is modifying my viewfinder to properly Mount to the hot shoe. The new mount is laser cut, vapour blasted, and machined to get a nice finish and means it’ll sit properly on the SL and SL2 without needing tape etc. Ill post more when the prototype arrives, but the company will be making 50 total so if you’re interested let me know. I’m not selling or making a profit from this, just thought I’d share.
P1505 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Share #43  Posted March 30, 2021 Update on this - the first batch are ready. I have one fitted to my camera now, will post images shortly. It means the finder attaches very securely to the hot shoe. They are laser cut from 303 Stainless Steel, CNC Milled to improve the finish, they vapour blasted. If anyone is interested we’ll be selling them at cost plus shipping at cost.
AZN Posted March 30, 2021 Share #44  Posted March 30, 2021 (edited) By the title of this thread, I thought it was about and electronic viewfinder (the "E" in "EVF"). Nevermind, if we are talking optical waist level viewfinders (er, "OVF"), then there is another option, the Leica AUFSU: http://leica.nemeng.com/027b.shtml The only problem is, the viewing window is tiny. Definitely need glasses now to be able to see anything. Used to use this gizmo a lot for candid shooting, before it became regarded as a crime…. (Grrrr) Edited March 30, 2021 by AZN

I’d be tempted if I found one at a sensible price. This thread went EVF to OVF because the SL can’t handle shooting photos on an EVF, you have to be in video mode. Paul2660 Posted May 8, 2021 Share #48  Posted May 8, 2021 Hello, I would like to know how well the view of the EVF is?  You device looks great, just curious at to the view.  Very reasonably priced. Thanks Paul
Joakim Posted May 9, 2021 Share #49  Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) To each his own I guess but I personally can’t see the point of this OVF since you need to lift the camera up so much anyway to look through it. It’s just another 5cm to lift the built in EVF to your eyes and you won’t need to bend your neck. Edited May 9, 2021 by Joakim
P1505 Posted May 9, 2021 Author Share #50  Posted May 9, 2021 Hi all. Apologies for vanishing, I managed to get Covid. The effects were quite bad, and the recovery is taking some time. To the people that have ordered, I’ll get back to you individually to confirm you still want the bracket. They have been packed and sitting in the office for weeks so are safe, but I’ll have each one sterilised (bracket and packing) before I ship out. I’m sure I got Covid from our regular Amazon delivery driver so I’m being very careful. @Joakim fair enough  But for me it turns the camera into a modern Hassleblad, and the results are different to holding it to you eye. Personally I now only use the SL with it on, and the M10 for eye level. It’s really changed how I shoot - looking forward to being able to get out with it more now I can walk.  1
RoySmith Posted May 10, 2021 Share #51  Posted May 10, 2021 Best wishes with your recovery. I understand it can be slow. Don’t push yourself too hard.
P1505 Posted May 14, 2021 Author Share #52  Posted May 14, 2021 It’s very slow. Strangest illness I’ve had. But up and about and hoping to go out for a days shooting soon. Batch of brackets shipped today.
wellfleet Posted May 24, 2021 Share #53  Posted May 24, 2021 (edited) I just received Andrew's bracket. It's very well crafted and fits perfectly, so if you're interested I strongly recommend. Thanks again, Andrew. Edited May 24, 2021 by wellfleet
P1505 Posted May 24, 2021 Author Share #54  Posted May 24, 2021 Thanks I want to see people’s photos. I’ve been using the M10 recently. The SL will come out for a play again soon.
P1505 Posted June 2, 2021 Author Share #55  Posted June 2, 2021 Can I ask a favour of those who’ve bought a viewfinder - what serial number did you buy? I’d like to build a list of finders that 100% fit the bracket. Thanks

This is a great contribution to SL - thanks for your effort! I am currently using the S-system, but I certainly missed such a device during my time with SL/SL2, particularly for macro/low angle photography...
VCShoot Posted September 8, 2024 Share #59  Posted September 8, 2024 Hi!! New Leica user here! I had an M-D and loved it but looking to go the SL route. @P1505 Is there any chance you might have more of these on hand? Or can special order one for me?! I’ve been looking high and low for a solution! Thank you!
