Leica is making a bundle on M lenses.  Look are what Cosina/Zeise can sell similar quality products for.  It's about keeping the mystique alive.

According to this article, the tariff has been suspended, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread.

Why wouldn't one want to save $200.  I just bought the made in Portugal re-issue 28 Summaron thought the German made one was available as well.  No issues so far.
