12526 Hood and Filter on Elmarit 28mm f2.8 Asph.

Hi everyone,

Some month ago I bought a UV filter for my Elmarit 28mm ASPH V1, a Gobe 3 Peaks (39mm). Is it normal not being able to fit the original hood (12526) on the lens with the filter mounted? I have to buy the original and expensive Leica one instead of the Gobe? Any Alternative?

No idea about Gobe but Leica and B+W filters fit perfectly.

All you need is a filter with a 39mm thread at the front. If you don't want Leica, a B+W filter will work fine. I expect Heliopan and other quality filters will also work - just check before you buy.

Having looked at a Gobe 3 Peaks 39mm filter it would seem to have a rather thick frame. Both B+W and Heliopan work perfectly and have a much slimmer frame, rather like Leica's own.

IMHO steer clear of Gobe filters on Leica M cameras. The company is based in Byron Bay not too far from where I live (Brisbane, Australia). I was very interested to try out their filter range (mainly 39mm) & ordered a few but unfortunately none of the filters would fully screw into every 39mm Leica lens I owned plus I was unable to apply the respective hoods once the filters were screwed in (partially). There was to & fro communication between Gobe & I over a few weeks - they even sent me more filters to try out JIC I had a "bad" batch but the new ones still wouldn't fully screw in - probably thread pitch related BUT the technical people at Gobe claimed the pitch was exactly the same as Leica, Heliopan, B+W etc filters. In the end I sent them all back & was fully refunded. They said they would look into this anomaly but I have never heard from them since. So, AVOID 39mm GOBE FILTERS. I can't comment on other sized Gobe filters.

Typical hood issue with third party filters.  Stick with B+W or Leica.  I know these work.

Agreed.  

Perhaps we can add Heliopan to this list.

No issues with the 39mm on my 28/2.8 ASPH II with hood or 35/2.8 Summaron with IROOA or 12585.
