Porchpockler Posted December 24, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) From what I'm reading, having a hard time knowing whether it is truly remarkable or only a small step up from the (much much cheaper) Sigma 30mm f1.4 APS-c lens....Anyone actually handled both? Advertisement Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Hi Porchpockler, Take a look here So...how good is that Summilux 35mm f1.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
oldwino Posted December 25, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 25, 2020 The TL-Summilux 35mm is in every way a Leica - built, weight, performance and price are all what you would expect. The Sigma is 95% there, performance-wise, with a much friendlier price and weight.
Porchpockler Posted December 25, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted December 25, 2020 Thanks...have you used both? Is it really that close? I have the 30 and was wondering how much difference I'd see investing in the 35mm...
Jarekjj Posted December 25, 2020 Share #4 Posted December 25, 2020 I would also like to know how much difference is there.

I find the lighter weight to be much more enjoyable to carry. Edited December 28, 2020 by oldwino
Porchpockler Posted December 28, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted December 28, 2020 Could you get a bit more specific about pros/cons of image quality? Really curious...
oldwino Posted December 28, 2020 Share #7 Posted December 28, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I haven’t done any side-by-side testing. I can say that the Leica has more CA wide open than I had expected (or hoped for). And the Sigma has CA wide open, too, but not more than the Leica, and is more easily forgiven because of the price. Porchpockler Posted December 28, 2020 Author Share #8 Posted December 28, 2020 Thanks! That's a bit surprising (on the CA). Any differences in sharpness or micro-contrast? Just wondering if there is a "look" to the 35 that goes beyond the 30...
huwm Posted January 2, 2021 Share #9 Posted January 2, 2021 I don't miss my TL, largely a weight issue as tbh in my hands results are pretty much indistinguishable
Shawn30 Posted February 13, 2021 Share #10 Posted February 13, 2021 I have both and I’m certainly no expert, and I haven’t used both in enough situations to make sound conclusions. I’ve only had the 35 TL a couple of weeks. That said I’ve taken a few shots with the 35 TL that make me stop and literally say “oh my.” I have a great respect for what Sigma is doing from a price and quality standpoint. I got mine stupidly cheap during a Black Friday sale. I’m thinking the IQ of the 30mm is on par with the 23 mm TL. I’m interested in seeing how long the less expensive glass lasts. From my experience with sport optics, less expensive glass would get foggy or dust inside after a short time.
Marac Posted February 13, 2021 Share #11 Posted February 13, 2021 It is an amazing lens, no doubt about that. When I had one it was my favourite for the CL. The Sigma 30mm f1.4 is also extremely good. These days though, I am using a Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 VM with superb results.
tommonego@gmail.com Posted February 13, 2021 Share #12 Posted February 13, 2021 I am waiting for a 35 f1.4 TT Artisan APS-C to come in, good reviews, absolutely cheap at $78 with shipping. Tiny, with metal construction, L mount. Don't know what to expect, but at the price I couldn't resist. Seems they are going to bring out a 17 f1.4 APS-C and a 50 f1.2 also APS-C. Not in the same league, of course, but sometimes evoking the same expression as the M50 f/2 APO. On certain occasions, there's just something special about the rendering. nicci78 Posted February 14, 2021 Share #14 Posted February 14, 2021 (edited) If you are looking after the Leica modern look (Peter Karbe era) Summilux-TL 35mm is the lens you want. Its issues : size & weight and chromatic aberrations. Sigma DC DN trio is very nice. But their rendering is different enough to be noticeable at first glance. They will not blend nicely among photos from other Leica modern era lenses. Most noticeable is their warm colour cast. Quite different from the cold and saturated colours from Leica’s. With Sigma’s you will not get the fantastic reds, bright yellows nor the deep blues. Edited February 14, 2021 by nicci78
huwm Posted February 14, 2021 Share #15 Posted February 14, 2021 Been out with my sigma again recently, I’ve acquired a Q2 so don’t use the CL much anymore but I still feel that it doesn’t really give away anything significant to the TL Mind you I prefer my old 40mm summicron (original CL) to both if you’re happy to manually focus?
