It was raining all day. I was there to film the festival. But now and then I shots some picture in between filming. I used the Sl2s with the sigma 24-70 lens. When the sun went down, the blue of the sky got lit up and it mixed with the smoke and the yellow light of the little stage. One of my moments of 2021.

Excuse the poor IQ this was shot @ ISO 100, 000 illuminated with a handheld flashlight  -SL2-S & Leica VE 90-280mm L @ 242mm

He courted her for 3 days & I managed to capture a single shot of an extremely rare sighting in the wild, the Leopards mating in a dry river bed. It takes no more than 10 to 15 seconds, but they will mate repeatedly over several days. Usually 2 cubs will be born in about 3 months time.

(slight improvement in IQ if you click on the image)

Great Mike! Far from technically superb, but superb nevertheless. How not to love the presence of wild cats! Those that are left, that is. Eurasian Lynx is the only wild cat species where I live. I have never seen it myself - it is in the category strongly threatened (and red-listed) - but it is hiiiiigh up on my wish-dream-list.

Thanks Helge. I really hope you'll get your Eurasian Lynx! I wasn't aware that they occur so far north.

Two nights after I took the image above, there was a whole lot of growling & roaring very near my tent. I followed up & found the same female mating with another male. You can see from his face & ears that it's a different male, this one's much older.

Female Leopards will mate with a number of males over the same time period, the theory is that by doing this, infanticide is reduced. With Lions Infanticide happens all the time, when a new male comes along he kills the cubs that were sired by the previous male, this brings the female Lion into oestrus & he can then mate with her. Female Leopards are clearly smarter & more promiscuous 😸?

They were in very thick bush,  SL2-S & Leica VE 90-280mm L @ 280mm ISO 12, 500
