I can produce Moire artifacts in good light without doing strange things like lifting deep shadows.  I work in a building that had louvered shades that can slide over the windows;  It makes lovely colors as long as you stand the right distance away.  I use it as a test of the inherent resolution of lenses.  I'll see if I can bring you a demonstration tomorrow.  Or I could photograph a star pattern, but that is almost like cheating.

I did ISO 800-50000/51200 S1, S5, α7III, SL2S on a tripod with the same lens. Will post later.

Here's our (currently pretty empty) campus:

α7III will show the same thing.

It’s what I’ve been telling you. But the craziest past is that it does better than the a7siii too !

You need to adjust for the difference in ISO scale. I think the SL2S comes close to the α7SIII which is impressive given its higher pixel count but doesn’t beat it. Anyway, I usually like to check for myself. As we say in German “Vertrauen ist gut, Kontrolle ist besser.“ :)

High ISO noise is about the same in Z 6 as is in a7rIII, see Z 6 vs. A7rIII. There is also some noise reduction applied to very high ISO of a7rIII (triangle down). No noise reduction was measured for Z 6. An example of using noise reduction to lift the DR are the new Canons: R5 and R6.

...

Happy holidays!

You mean the A7III. Then there is something wrong with the SL2S picture shown in #56 because the SL2S does better at high ISO than the A7III noise-wise. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/316607-high-iso-sl2-s-α7iii-s1-s5/?tab=comments#comment-4110482 It could be that the DNG file was inadvertently mixed up.

Happy New Year 2021!

Yes, I was thinking of a7III, though a7III and a7rIII have pretty much the same DR and noise (when scaled to the same dimension).

I was looking at images in the post below, and the noise in the middle gray is quite a bit worse for SL2-S because of a weird cross pattern. Have you observed that in your images as well?

I downloaded the raw files in #56 (NEFs and DNGs) and 'measured' noise with RawDigger. SL2-S has clearly better noise at high ISO, though only by a fraction of a stop.

In the examples I posted, the SL2S has the least noise of all four cameras in the middle gray to my eyes.

By the way Dr Kaufman has hinted about renaming Leica Camera AG back to Ernst Leitz name.
Just like he just renamed its cinema company CW (Cine Wetzlar) Sonderoptics with Leica Cine as commercial name into Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH with Leitz Cine as commercial brand

I guess that Dr Kaufman really like the Leitz brand. After the new complex at Wetzlar is named Leitz park and not Leica park

It's a very nice thought/interesting idea given the storied history, I thought I detected similar sentiments in one of Dr Kaufman's Youtube interviews. But...."Leica" still stands for "Lei-tz Ca-mera" as I learned in that same interview--so maybe "Leica" is still the best of both history and the now iconic brand. Beside who want to talk about the "The Leitz Look"  ha ha

It will be one of the common reasons for rebranding - to allow the parent company to diversify into other areas without being distracted by a reputation for just one of their products: e.g. Guinness>Diageo, Google>Alphabet

So expect Leitz to expand further in the non-camera market (as they already have, of course: binoculars etc)

In its July interview. Dr Kaufmann were not please by the name of the company changed in the 80´s from Ernst Leitz to Leica.
He think that a company should not bear the name of its company.

I guess that 2021 will be the year where Leica Camera AG will be renamed Ernst Leitz Wetzlar AG again.
Just like he already did with the Cine lenses branch.
And to celebrate that, they will released the M6 1984 with Ernst Leitz engraving and Leitz red dot logo.
