Chaemono Posted December 11, 2020 Share #1  Posted December 11, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The camera is a beauty with the Leica brand-name in black. It looks even nicer in real life than in the videos or the pictures. They should make every SL like that and vary the color of the dot only, red with white letters for the high res version, black with silver letters for the SL2-M, and silver with black letters for the 24 MPx one. A few test shots with the SL2-S to begin with. My first impression is that the files look amazing. I'm going to compare it to other cameras as well. I may post a couple older pictures with the SL vs. S1 and the same lens perhaps to show where a BSI sensor can make a difference. I don't own the original SL anymore. Edit - the first five don’t include EXIF data. These were taken with the APO 50 Summicron wide open at ISO 100 except the fruits at ISO 200. AWB by the camera and didn’t touch it. Processing in LR with Adobe Color. Less compressed JPEGs here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-VRrRQh/ Welcome, dear visitor! Flyer Posted December 11, 2020 Share #13  Posted December 11, 2020 They look very good, mine arrives on Monday and I hope the ISO is a bit cleaner than the SL2. For me personally I wanted a more versatile camera and the SL2-S looks to fit my needs and it's £1300 less than the SL2
scott kirkpatrick Posted December 12, 2020 Share #14  Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) Hmmm. European and UK distribution seems to be working faster than Leica USA. Mine is only promised to be in California in the next two weeks. Had hoped to join this effort sooner than that. Chaemono Posted December 12, 2020 Author Share #15  Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) Let's do ISO 800 SL2-S vs. S1 for noise with zero NR in LR. The SL2-S picture is slightly brighter (0.15 stops) at the same settings and, therefore, shows less noise when shadows are lifted all the way in LR and brightness is adjusted to match the histograms. But the SL2-S sensor is sharper and captures more details. Leica did a terrific job with the color filter array, filter stack composition, micro-lenses, cooling, color science, pre-processing stack, etc. to produce superior results compared to other 24 MPx FF BSI sensor cameras out there today. The SL2-S is arguably the most exciting stills camera for its color, sharpness and low-light capabilities that has been released ever since the α7RII/III and the original SL. Chaemono Posted December 12, 2020 Author Share #17  Posted December 12, 2020  Two ISO 6400, low-light, high contrast scene shots posted in another thread. The SL2-S files are bigger for a reason. They contain more information and it shows. Less compressed JPEGs here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-VRrRQh/ Look at the boy's tie, the girl's shirt in the middle, and the girl's scarf on the right. Chaemono Posted December 12, 2020 Author Share #19  Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) How about SL2-S vs. SL2 for sharpness, color, AWB by the camera, and skin tones? The thing that I like about the S3 and the only reason I'm keeping it even though I can't use it (😂) is that the files OOC require very little work for WB, skin tones, and color. I thought that the M10-R would be the same but it wasn't. Well, I must say, the SL2-S is an absolute stunner in this respect from what I can see so far. I have a few pictures from today. The first one here mainly for AWB by the camera, for sharpness, and a little bit for skin tones. Look how sweet the SL2-S picture looks (cobblestones, skin tones). Chaemono Posted December 12, 2020 Author Share #20  Posted December 12, 2020 Two more. I adjusted the Tint in both and left Temperature at AWB by camera setting, 5600 for the SL2, 6100 for the SL2-S.
