Thank you to everyone for their contributions to this month's Barnack's Monthly thread and I understand members' eagerness to post pictures in the thread, which I applaud although I notice that some members might be slightly confused by this month's theme, for which I take responsibility.

This is absolutely not directed at anyone in particular but I would like to politely remind posters that the theme this month is "SHINY", not 'shining' and in the opening post I've stated that: "This month's theme is any picture that includes something with a shiny surface that reflects light".  Not all surfaces that reflect light are shiny so I would be grateful for members to do their best to please stay within the bounds of this month's topic.

Please continue to generously post your pictures because the series of Barnack's Monthly threads could not survive without your contributions. 🙂

Pete.

I sympathize with your concern but would like to comment that something that is reflecting a direct source of light is highly shiny, and can also be accurately described as shining. Your concern with direct sources of light that are "shining" in a literary sense is totally valid and I agree with your remarks, but on the other hand something that is reflecting light (and thus able to be photographed) is not necessarily shiny... BUT, if it has specular highlights then it is in fact displaying shine. I would urge you to look more carefully at some of the submissions and see that in fact they do follow the theme. Some are more subtle than you desire, perhaps, but are nonetheless displaying shiny, in my opinion. On a personal note, the photograph of backlit fog with a tree blocking the direct light, could also arguably be considered shine, as the microscopic droplets of water are both refracting and reflecting light, and thus are shiny. Good luck with your efforts, and thank you Pete for your efforts.
