Latino heritage festival in Washington DC

I was not aware of this event when I arrived in downtown DC. I only had my Nikkor 28 mm on my T. If I knew in advance what was going on, I would have had my Angenieux zoom 35-70 mm that I think suits better for this kind of events. But I still could manage to get some shots.

Not sure I agree with the reasoning Louis, even though I too would likely have grabbed the zoom (R8 for example with R28-70).

Having just the one lens, and in this case a slightly wide/near standard lens, it made you shoot with what you had, and the results show. They are wonderful, truly wonderful.

The first especially, it is almost 3D like, really.

Hi Louis, fabulous Images, and I agree with Gary that this lens has brought us a new Louis "style" of shot. Amongst the best I've seen from you, or anyone else for that matter. Tony.

Wonderful pictures, Louis! The 28mm focal length (42mm equivalent) works really well on the T for shots like this. And the colours are fabulous!

Dear Gary, Tony and Robert, thank you so much for your kind feedback.

Gary and Tony, I certainly do not disagree with you, as I am also a believer of one-camera/one - lens idea which may produce a more thoughtful or "artistic" work; but I feel more comfortable to have the flexibility of a zoom when shooting an event. Although Nikkor 28 mm is still considered by many as one of Nikon's best lenses, and it is, indeed, a very sharp glass when you have time to focus right, it is not my favorite lens. I am often frustrated for not entirely controlling the background. For that, my favorite lens is the 50 mm, although not always very practical for street shooting.

Yesterday, when I was shooting the above pictures, I was often frustrated for not being able to get closer, or to blur the disturbing background. I was often stopped by the security people because I was getting too close to my subjects!... I thing the zoom may have helped me, as my Angenieux is also a superb glass! ;)

Thanks again for you positive comments.

BTW; there are a couple more shots in people's forum: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/264657-latino-heritage-festival-in-washington-dc/

Superb Pictures Louis, especially the first.

I was taught many many years ago when it was frowned upon to edit your pictures to "Use your Feet, Use Your Feet and to Use you Feet" this was by an old timer who instilled into me some excellent disciplines.

You have demonstrated precisely that with those pictures.

Too many people I fear now rely on PS to complete their cropping and image rectification, including myself now, which I hate to admit but when I shoot E6 or B&W then I still like to make sure that my cropping is good.

At last - I finally got to use my Leica T while travelling.  We went out West to Arizona and New Mexico.  Grand Canyon, Sedona and Albuquerque.  The T performed well once I put the Sandisk Exreme Pro  high speed card in (32 meg 95ms).  Other than hitting the Video button by mistake things went well.  I mostly used the 18-56 lens although occasionally the 11-23 and 55-135.  The 18-56 usually covers the focal lengths I need.

It happened to be a Full Moon the other night so I tried out the 55-135 on a tripod.

Rick, these are stunning shots; I like them very much. I have been in all this region, but then only with Dlux 5. Really stunning places to shoot. I think I even know that little fellow in the Grand Canyon; I shot it too! ;)
