Louis,

For the most part, the effect of all of the colored filters - red, green, yellow, orange etc. can be  applied after the shot in Lightroom.  The only exception is the polarizer.  .. in order to achieve polarization, it must be applied while taking the photograph.  So that is the only filter that  I bother carrying around.  It is particularly effective near the Sea Shore where the air often contains a lot of moisture.  The polarizer is able to cut down the glare created by the light-scattering moisture.  Whenever I buy a new lens, I also make sure that I have a polarizer that fits it.

Rick,

I have all the different color filters and also the polarizer  in 52mm that would work on my 18-56 and on my manual  Nikkor lenses. I used them a lot with film cameras, but as I started using Photoshop with digital photography, I neglected them. I was using polarizer mostly to cut off the reflection and to deepen the sky which is partly possible with separate color function in PS.

But I have  to use this filter again and I am sure i could get interesting results. Thank you for reminding me about polarizer; your beautiful shots are great examples of what this filter can do. :)
