I shot this leaf in Northern Vermont with my Vario-Elmar-T  1:3.5-4.5 / 55-135 ASPH at f/4.5.  The leaves are just starting to change.

I took the TL2 + 60TL to a dinner on Friday night. All shots taken in A-mode, AF + Face Detect, composed on the rear screen at table level often while talking to the people concerned. The TL2 handled the colour and WB pretty well, but frankly the mixed artificial lighting was ugly, so I converted everything to mono. The light was low and all shots were underexposed by 1-2 stops at my ISO6400, 1/160th f/2.8 limits, but the noise was acceptable in pattern - I haven't done much to reduce it. I was not surprised to find the AF hunting a lot, occasionally giving up but usually focusing correctly. The shot of the guy looking like a French wino (he is actually teetotal) is one that is grossly OOF, but still looks good - I added a lot of grain to this one!

So why am I bothering to post here fuzzy party shots with an expensive camera, instead of posting smartphone shots on facebook? Because I actually thoroughly enjoyed using this combination and I'll do the same on similar occasions. Allowing for AF hunting, it was great to have a system that I could use while talking to people, not hiding my face behind a camera (a big turn-off for people when they're near you), isolating people by shooting at wide aperture with a long lens to blur the background (not easy with a smartphone), and shooting someone close to me. If I'd tried a close up such as the 'top of the head with eyes' with the M and a 90M, I would be tilting my chair back just to be able to get beyond the minimum focus distance - the Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm makes it easy.
