Now that Rick is proving us how wonderful the wide angle is, I am tempted to go the opposite side and post shots made with Nikkor 85 mm that I really love.

And here another with Nikkor 85 on T from the New African American Museum in Washington DC, in a very dark show room.

Dear Peter,

That is fantastic and I love your article in LFI.

But how does an enthusiastic amateur follow that?

The Nikor 55 micro is a perfect size for the T  .. they can be had for relatively little money new or used .. they are completely manual lenses.

I like the idea of different threads for different T / TL lenses as Volbeat has done with his 11-23 thread.

I think there is an advantage to seeing a collection / series of pix taken via the same lens.

What say you?

I do see one problem... How would such a scheme allow us to keep seeing the wonderful shots taken via Louis' and Rick's non-T / TL lenses?

Dear John, as I mentioned in the other forum where you asked this question, although I see your point which is very interesting; I believe if we do that, this forum would disappear little by little and that would be too bad. It is good for everyone to have one forum in which we can all share our shots, regardless of the lens.

Rick, all your butterfly shots are stunning. Colors and IQ are really superb, and I know how difficult it is to shoot these little fellows.... Maybe it would be easier to put glues on  some nice flowers and sit waiting for a butterfly to pass by! ;)

I tries several times to shoot them, but with not much success!... I haven't tried the glue yet!....

Good job, my friend. :)

Rick,

Is this the lens you are using for the butterfly:Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200 mm 1:4-5,6G ED VR II Objektiv s? With the M adapter ring?

Thank you, yesterday I tried to photograph a tiny blue butterfly but my picture is by far not as good as yours!

Best regards

Chris

I'm getting old Louis... Can't recall posting a similar message. I don't disagree with your assessment.

John

Guys,

I posted in response to this in the 11-23 Thread.

Don't want to upset anyone on my favourite forum, I can see advantages to splitting and agree with the Strength in Numbers philosophy from Louis too.

Cheers

Chris,

No, the Micro Nikkor I am now using is the older style AI lens .. 55mm Micro Nikkor AI f 2.8 .. This does not have any auto focus mechanics in it, so ..more compact, all metal build, this and the 105 AI were a couple of the best Macro lenses available back in the film days. These can still be purchased new today at B&H etc. If you can find one used in good shape they are relatively inexpensive. As far as success taking butterfly photos .. I was at a Butterfly Farm..so the subjects were constantly presenting themselves.. Also I was in the Caribbean where there was bright sunlight most of the time. Handheld macro ..close up .. Photos require lots of light .. I was often shooting at 1/100th @ f 3.5-8. ISO 200. Auto focus is nice to have for macro shots, but not absolutely necessary..I missed a few for sure, but I spent most of my life with manual focus so I do all right.

Cheers,

Rick

PS: lens plus Nikon to M adapter - M adapter to Leica T.
