The following are my first TL2 images following installing Firmware 1.1.  A technical exercise using: 1) Novoflex 400mm 'T' Noflexar with Leitz APO 1.4x extender and 2)  Leitz 560/6.8 Telyt R with and without Leitz APO 1.4x and 2.0x extenders .

The ancient 3 element T Noflexar 400mm achromat was bought on Ebay two weeks ago for just £32 as a very worn item; the lens head was detached and used on an existing Novoflex follow focus mount. The Noflexar T's lens coating is quite mottled / spotty (common anomaly with many old Novoflex lenses) but does not appear to degrade the image.  The Leitz 560/6.8 DNG files showed rather odd looking histograms with impossible to fully correct blacks … not sure why. The Noflexar's DNG files' histograms' blacks were OK.  All images taken from a hide in a local nature reserve.   I'm classified as being totally colour blind thus rely on the histogram to try and produce reasonable colours … apologies if the 560mm lens' difficult blacks have produced a colour cast I cannot see.   Note high ISO settings.

Mute Swan  400mm T Noflexar plus Leitz APO 1.4x extender  ISO 400 1/320 f8   FF equiv. 840mm

Considering the cost I'm happy with the lens. I have another 400mm T Noflexar somewhere with perfect lens coatings; when it surfaces some comparison shots will be posted to show any differences ref the lens coating mottling.

The TL2 with 560mm lens plus Leitz APO 2x extender and Novoflex R to T adapter. The wooden Berlebach mini tripod is just supporting the camera for this photo … the mini Berlbach was also used with a fork mount in the hide when taking photos but was found to be too lightweight on the hide's narrow window shelf. The fork mount at the front of the lens is attached to a ball head but purely to take advantage of the ball heads' azimuth/pan base; the ball head is attached to a Manfrotto hide clamp . The fork mount was not entirely satisfactory when used with the Leitz 560 mm Telyt lens; the lens focuses by means of push/pull trombone slide action via a spring loaded button; trying to operate the button and push / pull focus with the left hand whilst at the same time depressing the camera's shutter release with the right hand and composing the image by tilting / swinging the lens head in the fork mount, is very awkward; the fork mount would be fine for an autofocus lens but it's a pain when used with a manual focus lens. Next time I use the 560mm it will be mounted on a Jobo gimbal … which is heavy to carry but very much more efficient and easier to use than the experimental fork mount. The 560mm Telyt should ideally be used with a Leitz pistol grip which has a provision for a trigger operated cable release … I have the pistol grip (and shoulder stock) but there is no means of operating the TL2 shutter via a cable release.

Yesterdays technical exercise has laid the foundations for a different approach on the next trip to the reserve.

Thanks, Vikas. This is a wall in Adams Morgan, DC. I had to shoot it now, before another image would spoil the show! ;)

But to be fair to Mr. Obama, Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Eisenhower, I must also add this shot. I couldn't have them in the the first shot; I had no room to step back.

Nice! Thanks Louis.

T with 55-135mm + Elpro VIIa . . . 1/1600@f/8, ISO 200 . . .

Mr. Thumbs accidentally toggled the T's file format to jpg fine, and this is what came out . . . no complaints!

Dunk,

Could you utilize something like this?

Thanks Gary … would work fine if the TL2 had a built-in EVF; the TL2's accessory shoe is needed for the VISO finder.  Next time the lenses are coupled with the TL2 will use a Jobo gimbal mount to support the combination which enables much easier focusing and composition …but it's quite heavy to carry … it's a long walk to the hide down a steep incline and even with a trolley is hard work climbing back up to the reserve entrance.

Best wishes

Use the 'More Reply Options' prompt after clicking 'Quote' … but why repeat the image?

Thanks Dunk,

This is the first time I've wanted to copy the image because I wanted Michael's Spider and mine to be right next to each other (because they are friends  ).

No really because I wanted to compare the T image with the image from a compact. Not knowing how to copy Michael's image means they appear on different pages.

I'm sure I'll have forgotten how by the next rare occasion that it seems a good idea.

Cheers,
