Your shots with T + Nikkor 300 mm are amazing!

I do have an old Nikkor 300 AI , and tried it only once on T as a test. Surprisingly, the result was better than I thought. I have to use it more often; but first, I have to find right subjects for that too! ;)

Manual focus + luck.  :)

No enticements for the critters, they just seem to know (rightly) that an old fart like me can't/won't move fast enough to harm them.

Just out of curiosity, I see that you have a Leica SL as well.  Any particular reason why you used the T for these shots?  I would say that the EVF on the SL and focus peaking makes manual focus easier.

In this case, it was because there was good light outdoors yesterday.

A further advantage of this setup is that everything (excluding strap) weighs only 1.574kg.  Manual focus on the T is faster for me because I can obtain critically accurate focus on the T >80% of the time with just the shimmer without magnification; whereas I need to activate magnification on the SL in order to obtain accurate peaking cues.

in less favorable light or with presence or threat of precipitation, I would likely rely on the SL.

This lens is quite easy to use with the T.

As I was asked by few friends about the sharpness of Vario Elmar T 18-56, I made a quick test with Nikkor 50 mm that is one of my favorite lenses, and Vario Elmar (AF) at 56 mm.

Vario Elmar is not a very fast glass, and as I took these shots indoor, the lens didn’t open more than f/5.6. Therefore, I tried to have the same aperture on my Nikkor.

It looks that both lenses have almost the same DOF. But I was surprised by the sharpness of Vario (AF) compared to the Nikkor (MF) which is, in my view, a very sharp glass.

Both shots are jpeg, OOC, without any processing. If the Leica version is darker, it is only because I took the light for Nikkor manually.

Vario Elmar - T, 18-56, at 56 mm.
