And, it does color so nicely. The 35 1.4 is fantastic. (It is much crisper/sharper without the downsizing necessary for this site).

Rob, stop posting the pool shots! Here in DC, we are freezing; it is dark, and everyone that I know is sick! Your shots are not fair!  :(

Nice shots though! I just got my 18-56 and made some test shot that I will post soon! ;)

Louis,

I hear you. If it makes you feel any better, it has been raining non-stop all weekend, atypical for Florida. (Cooped up indoors, on these rainy days I am 'forced' to look at my photo library).

Having lived in Ct. I do not envy your predicament.

Hope you enjoy the 18-56;  it is a nice lens. I think you'll be quite pleased, but you were getting some really nice results from your Nikon too.

Stay warm!

Rob

My first 18-56 shots!

I have been shooting with manual Nikkor lenses on T for over a year. It was about time for me to also have a native T lens (zoom), mostly for travel. Today, I received my 18-56 and despite a very dark and cold day, I had a walk around for about ½ hour to test the lens.

These are a few of my first test shots with  Vario Elmar-T 18.56 mm. So far, I think I like the rendering of this glass; and, I was pleased to note that the AF is not as slow as have been mentioned. At least for me.

Great "out of the block" starting pics Louis, impeccable style as usual. You must be enjoying the weight difference. By the way........its grey and dark and damp here in N.Germany. :-)) . Tony.

Rob, Rick, Tony, Robert, John and all the other friends, thank you very much for your very kind and encouraging feedback.

I was very excited to see how this lens works, as I wasn’t very sure if it was a wise idea to replace my (ex) superb Nikkor. I was more worried about how slow this glass is! … So, as soon as I received the lens, I just couldn’t wait, and despite the cold and nasty weather that we are having in my region, I had to try it ASAP. Because of the weather, not many people were wandering in the darkness of the streets; so, I just had to shoot a few windows before running back home. :)

As my first impression, I am quite pleased with the lens. But I got it from EBay for a reasonable price; and that also worried me a little. I sent the serial number to leica and I am just being told by them that the warranty depends on the vendor who sold me the lens!!!... Weird response! …

John, I think your question was whether I framed my shots as they are, or I cropped them? I usually compose and shoot my subject as I see them. It also happens to me to sometimes remove a shape or color that I think is not right in the composition. But one thing that I always do is correcting the lens distortions; and, fixing the verticals or horizontals. :)

Thanks again, guys.

Strolled around Peterborough City Centre this evening. I'm classified as totally colour blind (but I do see colours) so not sure if these colours are right; camera was set to AWB.

The Guildhall, Cathedral Square, Peterborough - tarted up for Christmas :( .  Leica T 23mm S'cron T, f3.5 1/10sec., ISO 800; handheld.  Note the ubiquitous Macdonalds spoiling the view.   The Guildhall was built in 1669-71 and was the former Town Hall.

Best wishes

Peterborough Humbug   ;)  cont'd  :

In front of the tarted-up Guildhall on Cathedral Square, Peterborough, the City Council spent £40,000 on this controversial 'Monstrous Electronic Christmas Tree' - which they claim is cheaper than hiring Christmas decorations. But it does create picturesque silhouettes, as busy people, largely oblivious to the illuminations, walk by:

EDIT: Christmas wish: 'Bring back a proper tree next year … and find someone to sponsor it!!'  P'bor City Council do not have a clue!! But unlikely to happen because they have to justify the £40K already spent - so likely the Monstrous E Xmas Tree will be re-assembled for the next few years at least.
