Cayenne Posted October 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all! First, thank you to everyone on the site, ya'll have been so very helpful. I've been enjoying my new and first Leica, the M10M. I've been researching and after I save my nickels and dimes, I think my first actual Leica lens will be the Elmarit 28mm f/2.8 lens. The price (for Leica) is reasonable, and from what I"ve read and seen so far, it seems to be one of the sharpest lenses Leica makes, shy of the 50 APO (which I won't be able to afford anytime soon).... I would be VERY anxious to see photos y'all have taken with this lens.....of course B&W with M10 monochrome would be the most applicable directly to me, but, I'd be quite interested in seeing them in color and even from film cameras if you have those shots too. Please, also, give me your thoughts on the lens too...likes, dislikes, etc. It is really as sharp as I read about? Thank you in advance, cayenne

pedaes Posted October 28, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2020 Have you looked here With the resolution your camera is capable of, I don't think images posted at the Forum's mb limit are going to help you much. All lens by all makers will look good if processed half properly. You need to look at Sean Reids (subscription) site. He has properly tested the 'mk1 v mk2' Elmarit and Summicron , with some interesting results.

m410 Posted October 29, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 29, 2020 (edited) The 28mm f2.8 Elmarit ASPH2 is a nice choice. Sharp, small, lightweight, light cost and very good to travel. Attached photograph is from M10 shot in color and edited to black and white. Select image to see little better detail. Welcome, dear visitor! FHPdoc Posted October 29, 2020 Share #5 Posted October 29, 2020 Cayenne, The 28mm Elmarit-M is a great lens--I love it almost as much as the 50 APO. The following were all taken on the M10M with an orange filter: Welcome, dear visitor! Dennis Posted October 29, 2020 Share #10 Posted October 29, 2020 It's an amazing lens, very small and light, focus tab, and incredible sharp. It was my first lens ever for Leica, I bought it among with the M10, same shipping 🙂 I sold it after a few months for one reason only. I didn't get used to 28mm frame lines. And know, I do prefer a lot 35 ... Welcome, dear visitor! I have the v1 asph and it's as near to being the perfect lens as I could ever imagine. It's incredibly tiny; it's incredibly light; its physicality doesn't intrude into the viewfinder and the performance is spectacularly good. There is simply not a down-side to its character (IMO). Before I acquired my example I wasn't much of a 28mm chap but the results it can produce are so good it is now my #2 lens without a shadow of a doubt. Musotographer Posted October 30, 2020 Share #12 Posted October 30, 2020 I now have the pre-Asph v4 and love it; it's become one of my favourites. It's a little gentler than the Asph v1 which I had before and also a little bigger which I prefer for handling. I bought mine very cheaply (about £500 I think) as cosmetically it's a bit rough and has no hood - but as it virtually never flares you don't really need one. I strongly recommend it, especially if you can find a bargain one. The v3 also has a lot of fans, but I think that's a bit bigger. On the M10M, stopped down, prob with orange filter: Welcome, dear visitor! Stein K S Posted October 30, 2020 Share #14 Posted October 30, 2020 Hi Musotographer Agree! The Elmarit v4 is so nice! The most pleasant rendering or drawing! Had the asph v1 for a number of years. But I never got ¨excited¨ by it the way I experience more or less with all my other Leica lenses. So sold it and never regretted it. Only thing is its very nice size... the size is just the way an M lens should be... or is it even too small? 😉

I have a few R lenses and generally find them more comfortable to use than some of my Ms, great though they are. Small isn't always beautiful. 😁

I have adapters, that I"m using with other lenses, some vintage....enough to satisfy my "look" jones for a bit, especially starting out. A quick question tho, I see folks mentioning versions of the like like V1, V4...etc. Can someone educate me on the versions and what the pros/cons of each are? I had been thinking to get the newest one, but likely used...thinking it would be the best with sharpness and contrast...is this the case? pippy Posted October 31, 2020 Share #18 Posted October 31, 2020 I happen to like the way the asph v1 draws (as well as how the earlier versions draw, of course!). Here's a v1; Welcome, dear visitor! Mute-on Posted October 31, 2020 Share #19 Posted October 31, 2020 Given your criteria of wide, sharp and high contrast, the 28 Elmarit asph is a perfect fit. I have the V2 Asph. As a 28mm shooter I am glad I waited to get it over earlier versions. The very small size results in minimal viewfinder intrusion, and excellent handling. You won’t regret getting one. One of, if not the, best value new Leica M lenses currently available. J

It took me some time, but I finally found mine in mint condition. Edited October 31, 2020 by Lelmer
